Be sure to check out their resources as you plan for participating in \u201cGirl\u2019s Day\u201d as part of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nspe.org\/resources\/partners-and-state-societies\/national-engineers-week\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Engineers Week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: learners to engineering<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it is important to come to a common understanding of both <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachengineering.org\/k12engineering\/designprocess\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Engineering Design Process<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and how it differs from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/whats-the-buzz-design-thinking\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Design Thinking<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencebuddies.org\/science-fair-projects\/engineering-design-process\/engineering-design-process-steps\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Science Buddies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/single.php?id=5404\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reviewed style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specify Requirements<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brainstorm Solutions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose the Best Solution<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do Development Work<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Build a Prototype<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Test and Redesign<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For younger children, teachers might consider using the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eie.org\/overview\/engineering-design-process\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">five steps<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> outlined by the Boston Museum of Science <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eie.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engineering is Elementary<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/single.php?id=15926\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reviewed here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mvifi.org\/blog\/2016\/04\/18\/t-j-edwards-from-project-to-passion\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> J Edwards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an engineer turned teacher, makes a great distinction between the Engineering Design Process and Design Thinking. <\/span><b><i>Engineering Design<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> relies heavily on math, begins with understanding customer constraints and budgets and asks the designer to \u201cprove\u201d that their design is the best. \u00a0<\/span><b><i>Design Thinking<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on the other hand, is focused on solving problems for people, exploring possibilities without constraints and showing what you\u2019ve designed. \u00a0While many teachers may have thought that the two were very similar and maybe even interchangeable, there\u2019s a real difference. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check out the
