His dream of equal rights for children and adults of all colors continues to inspire people around the world in their goal of peaceful coexistence of all people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is easy to do a quick Google search to find teaching resources related to this speech, but it takes a lot of time to sort through all of the responses and choose what you need. Instead, I\u2019d like to share some of the many resources already available right here at TeachersFirst that save you a lot of time and frustration. In fact, these are some of the many free items found on the site that are part of what we call our \u201c<\/span><b>Hidden Treasures.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/hangups.cfm\"><b>Bulletin Board Hangups<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; choose from many different motivational quotes ready to print and hang on your bulletin boards and classrooms. Scroll through to find topics of \u201cThoughts on Greatness and Achievement\u201d and \u201cInspiration from Sports.\u201d Just click on the PDF icon, print, and display!<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/content\/curriconnects.cfm\"><b>CurriConnects<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; CurriConnects is a collection of curated booklists by topic. These booklists include ideas for books from preschool through adult reading level along with Lexile reading levels and more. Check out <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/content\/booklist-titles.cfm?id=12\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Books for Tough Situations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/content\/booklist-titles.cfm?id=13\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Civil War and Slavery<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/content\/booklist-titles.cfm?id=36\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking Care of Me<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to use for teaching about goal setting and accomplishing dreams.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/unitlist.cfm\"><b>Instructional Units<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; two of the fourteen instructional units created by TeachersFirst relate directly to Martin Luther King and his I Have a Dream speech. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/lessons\/mlk\/proj-open.cfm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They Had a Dream Too<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is for grades 1-4 and is a complete unit on overcoming obstacles. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/lessons\/mlk\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remembering Martin Luther King<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is another unit for grades 1-4 and includes math, science, and language activities built around the themes of equality and non-violence.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/reading-treks\/\"><b>Reading Treks<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Reading Treks takes participants on a virtual field trip based on a piece of literature using Google Maps. Check out the Reading Trek for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">March, Book One, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the autobiography of U.S. Congressman John Lewis and his commitment to equality and justice.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/special-topics.cfm\"><b>Special Topics Collections<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; sometimes the number of websites and resources are just too overwhelming to look through. TeachersFirst editors have gathered their favorite resources for a variety of topics into special topics collections. These collections include 25-30 of the best resources for all grade levels. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/spectopics\/blackhist.cfm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Black History Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/spectopics\/mlk.cfm\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Martin Luther King, Jr. Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> include many ideas for lessons, activities, and more.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers have documented the importance of setting goals and working toward achieving dreams. This<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hilt.harvard.edu\/files\/hilt\/files\/settinggoals.pdf\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harvard study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> discusses the importance of goal setting in education. In their findings, the authors outline the direct correlation of goal setting to achievement and motivation. They also take a look at goal setting by educators as an essential tool in guiding learning through sound pedagogical thinking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is still very early in the school year for most of us, in fact, some schools may not have started yet.
