Scaffolding lessons requires\u00a0additional\u00a0effort during the planning phase. \u00a0The extra preparation affords you the opportunity to take on the role of facilitator during the lesson. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lesson scaffolding can look very different depending on things like your content, instructional style, and grade level. A science teacher I used to work with always used \u201cI do &#8211; We do &#8211; \u00a0You do\u201d as her lesson scaffold. It made a lot of sense as her students did a lot of experiments. The modeling and whole class practice gave students the repetitions that they needed to be able to complete the activity alone or in pairs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since today is\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/digitallearningday.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital Learning Day<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, I thought I would share one of my favorite scaffolding strategies for technology integrated lessons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Templates are a great way to help students create things that can be used for authentic assessment. \u00a0If I want to know what a student learned from reading a chapter of a book, I can ask them to mock up an Instagram post (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachingtechnix.com\/2017\/11\/instagram-template-with-google-slides.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">template here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) about it using a template. \u00a0The template does the hard part &#8211; making everything look right &#8211; so that the student can concentrate on the message. If I want to know what the student learned about the Revolutionary War, I could ask them to show me what Washington\u2019s Facebook (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/henrico.k12.va.us\/powerupteaching\/resources\/social-media-templates?authuser=0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">template here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) page might have looked like. The scoring rubric could include an understanding of the timeline included using posts that reflect salient moments, friends added to the page, and images used.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maybe you don\u2019t want to use templates for assessment. You can use templates to guide your lesson instead. If you have young students, you might have them draw a picture and use it to illustrate number sentences. With <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/christinepinto.com\/2017\/02\/27\/create-and-graph-in-google-sheets\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this template<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you can do that using Google tools. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many teachers and tech coaches who share free templates all over the web. \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/creativeedtech.weebly.com\/templates.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/christinepinto.com\/templates\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are a few templates with a variety of activities.
