Both Game Based Learning and gamification add fun to the classroom, so I encourage you to try them both.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Gamification<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a great way to motivate people to change their behavior. \u00a0It can be defined as taking the ideas that make games fun to play and applying them to other situations. \u00a0For example, my local grocery store gives me one point for every dollar I spend there. \u00a0When I get 100 points, I can trade them in for ten cents off the purchase price of gas. \u00a0This summer they are offering two points per dollar if you shop on the weekend. \u00a0By offering these incentives, they have motivated me to shop at their store on the weekend during the summer. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the classroom, you can get students to be more engaged in lessons using gamification. \u00a0You can turn learning objectives into \u201cquests,\u201d offering students experience points or XP for the successful completion of the quest. \u00a0While students are working on the quest, it might be fun to offer a point bonus if they can complete an additional small application assignment within a given window of time. \u00a0Finally, you might allow them to trade points in for a prize or special privilege, making the game worthwhile for the students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Game Based Learning<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the practice of teaching through using games.
