Started in 1999 by the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Association of American Publishers, Get Caught Reading Month is an annual celebration to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwtliteracy.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/resources\/caught.pdf\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">promote reading<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The observance is championed by<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/everychildareader.net\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every Child A Reader<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a literacy nonprofit, and kicked off by<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/everychildareader.net\/cbw\/cbw-resources\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children&#8217;s Book Week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which will be celebrated twice this year: May 4\u201310 will focus on connecting with text online given the current health crisis and social distancing guidelines, while face-to-face events are planned for November 9\u201315.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2020-MAY-Get-Caught-Reading.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3675\" src=\"http:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2020-MAY-Get-Caught-Reading-200x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2020-MAY-Get-Caught-Reading-200x300.png 200w, https:\/\/teachersfirst.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2020-MAY-Get-Caught-Reading-683x1024.png 683w, https:\/\/teachersfirst.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2020-MAY-Get-Caught-Reading.png 735w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Ideas abound for celebrating Get Caught Reading Month:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The official Get Caught Reading site offers<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.getcaughtreading.org\/teachers-librarians.php\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">activity ideas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.getcaughtreading.org\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">digital posters<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reading is for Everyone has a suite of<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.capstonepub.com\/sites\/reading_is_for_everyone\/downloads.html\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">digital resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including infographics, bookmarks, posters, and activities (and the opportunity to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.capstonepub.com\/sites\/reading_is_for_everyone\/assets\/PDFs\/caughtreadingpictureframedownloadable.pdf\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">make<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> your own!).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reading Horizons has a great collection of<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.readinghorizons.com\/blog\/10-shareable-images-to-encourage-reading-during-get-caught-reading-month\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reading memes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for your virtual or actual classroom.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DEMCO suggests ways to promote good reading habits throughout the school and community. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ideas.demco.com\/blog\/7-ways-to-get-caught-reading\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These ideas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be easily translated to remote learning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ReadWriteThink.org has teacher-authored<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.readwritethink.org\/classroom-resources\/calendar-activities\/caught-reading-month-20650.html\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lesson plans<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to promote reading across a variety of grade ranges.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many sites are also offering unique opportunities for students to interact and engage with books and reading, including TeachersFirst! Students can<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dogobooks.com\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">create book reviews<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kidlit.tv\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">explore the world of literature<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with videos on KidLit TV,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/librariantolibrarian.wordpress.com\/2019\/08\/09\/podcasts-about-books-for-kids-and-teens\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">listen to podcasts about books<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from librarians, and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/stories.audible.com\/start-listen\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">listen to stories<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Audible! Use Flipgrid to<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.flipgrid.com\/news\/celebratereading\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">celebrate reading<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in your classroom or learn from home with Milikin\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/millikin.libguides.com\/childrens-literature\/booktalks\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">book talks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
