Consider having students create cat memes to share.\u00a0 Challenge older students to research the overweight tabby and give younger students a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Garfield_(character)#Fictional_biography\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">short biography<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to make sure they have enough background knowledge to be creative. Creating a Garfieldesque meme would be an easy project to facilitate using BigHugeLabs (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/single.cfm?id=12376\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reviewed here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) or Adobe Spark post (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/single.cfm?id=17152\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reviewed here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). Include a mini-lesson on copyright so that students know how to responsibly find and use images to make their creations. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/single.cfm?id=18395\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This TeachersFirst\u00ae&#xfe0f; curated collection<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an excellent place to start looking for images.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">June 19th is also<\/span><b> International Box Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Ask students to create an infographic about how people use and reuse boxes.\u00a0 The Canva infographic maker (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/single.cfm?id=17570\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reviewed here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) has a lovely assortment of templates. Use Animoto (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/single.cfm?id=10388\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reviewed here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) or Microsoft Sway (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/single.cfm?id=16373\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reviewed here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) to create a Public Service Announcement about the need to recycle boxes.\u00a0 Help students remember to keep their audience in mind as they produce their work \u2013 customizing a message helps to make it more effective.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use June 20th to practice a little digital citizenship, in addition to communication.\u00a0 <\/span><b>Ugliest Dog Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while amusing, could quickly devolve into something unkind.\u00a0 An authentic activity might see students creating social media posts to help place dogs from an animal shelter.\u00a0 An interactive made with Genially (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachersfirst.com\/single.cfm?id=17621\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reviewed here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) can help students focus on positive attributes rather than a negative one.
