Students should be aware of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/item\/today-in-history\/december-15\/\">what the Bill of Rights is<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/files\/education\/distance-learning\/The%20Bill%20of%20Rights%20in%20Real%20Life%20Teacher%20Guide.pdf\">how it applies to their lives<\/a>. What better way to make that happen than to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdcourts.gov\/education\/billofrightsday\">celebrate<\/a> this day in your classroom?!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are many resources available to teachers to celebrate this day. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/founding-docs\/bill-of-rights-transcript\">Bill of Rights<\/a> is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/resources.billofrightsinstitute.org\/american\/?_ga=2.39850785.229450010.1607184553-96194491.1607184553\">foundational documents<\/a> of the American way of life. What would life look like in the United States without it? Students can play <a href=\"https:\/\/billofrightsinstitute.org\/engage\/student-resources\/play-games\/life-without-the-bill-of-rights\/\">&#8220;Life Without the Bill of Rights?&#8221;<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/billofrightsinstitute.org\/educate\/educator-resources\/bill-of-rights-day\/\">Bill of Rights Institute<\/a> to find out! In addition to the game, the institute has a wealth of resources for teachers from <a href=\"https:\/\/billofrightsinstitute.org\/educate\/educator-resources\/bill-of-rights-day\/bill-of-rights-day-lesson-plans\/\">lesson plans<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/billofrightsinstitute.org\/engage\/student-resources\/constitutional-principles-videos\/\">videos<\/a>, an <a href=\"https:\/\/billofrightsinstitute.org\/founding-documents\/bill-of-rights\/\">analysis of the text<\/a> with a free ebook, and even a <a href=\"https:\/\/billofrightsinstitute.org\/engage\/student-resources\/bill-of-your-rights-song\/\">song<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2020-DEC-Celebrate-Bill-of-Rights-Day-December-15th-200x300.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4477\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachersfirst.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2020-DEC-Celebrate-Bill-of-Rights-Day-December-15th-200x300.png 200w, https:\/\/teachersfirst.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2020-DEC-Celebrate-Bill-of-Rights-Day-December-15th-683x1024.png 683w, https:\/\/teachersfirst.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2020-DEC-Celebrate-Bill-of-Rights-Day-December-15th.png 735w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many government agencies make resources available for teachers and families. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/news\/topics\/bill-of-rights#:~:text=Bill%20of%20Rights%20Day%2C%20December,out%20our%20rights%20as%20Americans.\">National Archives<\/a> celebrates this day with a wealth of resources. They published<em> <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/publications\/ebooks\/testing-bill-of-rights\"><em>Putting the Bill of Rights to the Test: A Primary Source-Based Workbook<\/em><\/a> for students to explore the core concepts and how they have been tested throughout history. Through a partnership with Google, students can explore the National Archives exhibit<em> <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/artsandculture.google.com\/exhibit\/gQQ0JQgv\"><em>Amending America: Why a Bill of Rights?<\/em><\/a>. The Library of Congress has published an entire research guide entitled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/guides.loc.gov\/bill-of-rights?&amp;loclr=reclnk\">Bill of Rights: Primary Documents in American History<\/a>&#8221; which includes a variety of digital and print resources. Their online exhibit<em> Creating the United States<\/em> includes a page all about the history of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/exhibits\/creating-the-united-states\/creating-the-bill-of-rights.html\">creating the Bill of Rights<\/a>. They have many lesson plans, including one entitled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/classroom-materials\/bill-of-rights-debating-the-amendments\/\">The Bill of Rights: Debating the Amendments<\/a>&#8221; as well as a page for younger students from the America&#8217;s Story feature all <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americaslibrary.gov\/jb\/nation\/jb_nation_bofright_1.html\">about the Bill of Rights<\/a>. Other government agencies with resources about the Bill of Rights are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/citizenship\/resources-for-educational-programs\/bill-of-rights-day\">U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/newsroom\/stories\/bill-of-rights-day.html\">U.S. Census Bureau<\/a>. The Federal Courts even held a live online event for families on December 2nd. The worksheet for the game that was played can be used with students and is available <a href=\"https:\/\/ecf.ca8.uscourts.gov\/files\/Puzzle_Sheet_Dec_2.pdf\">here<\/a>. They have also published a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Dq-fFnf4HhM\">video<\/a> showing employees of the court reflecting on their guaranteed freedoms by answering the question, &#8220;What does the Bill of Rights mean to you?&#8221;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many other resources exist for teachers to bring this day alive for students. The <a href=\"https:\/\/constitutioncenter.org\/learn\/civic-calendar\/bill-of-rights-day\">National Constitution Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/teachingamericanhistory.org\/resources\/bor\/\">Teaching American History<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.readwritethink.org\/classroom-resources\/calendar-activities\/bill-rights-observed-20112.html\">Read Write Think<\/a> all have a variety of lesson plans and other resources for use in the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make celebrating Bill of Rights Day in the classroom engaging and fun using a plentiful variety of online resources!
