They are a founding ceremony of our democracy. Studying inaugurations through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/programs\/teachers\/getting-started-with-primary-sources\/#:~:text=Primary%20sources%20are%20the%20raw,distance%20of%20time%20or%20place.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">primary source<\/a> lens is an engaging and at times <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.loc.gov\/headlinesandheroes\/2021\/01\/intriguing-facts-about-presidential-inaugurations-past\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fascinating<\/a> classroom activity.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presidency.ucsb.edu\/documents\/presidential-documents-archive-guidebook\/inaugural-addresses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">General resources<\/a> for inaugural primary sources abound. The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/classroom-materials\/inaugurations\/an-orderly-transition\/the-inaugural-site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Library of Congress<\/a> contains a wealth of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/rr\/program\/bib\/inaugurations\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resources<\/a> on every presidential inauguration from George Washington to the incoming president, Joe Biden. Varied resources exist about the inaugural locations, including those <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.loc.gov\/law\/2017\/01\/presidential-inaugurations-outside-of-washington-d-c-law-and-tradition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">outside of Washington, DC<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/feha\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">site of the first inauguration<\/a> in New York City is a primary source in itself and is now a national memorial. Examining videos of inaugurations can be a captivating exercise for both<a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/files\/education\/lessons\/worksheets\/video_analysis_worksheet_novice.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> elementary<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/archives.gov\/files\/education\/lessons\/worksheets\/motion_picture_analysis_worksheet.pdf(opens%20in%20a%20new%20tab)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">secondary<\/a> students. There are many <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/syWo_gzGSoY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">videos<\/a> &#8211; from <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/obKdFC8a2-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">historical documentation<\/a>, to <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/EBMXb97sePM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">highlight reels<\/a>, to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/playlist\/presidential-inauguration-speeches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recordings of individual speeches<\/a> &#8211; available about a variety of inaugural topics. Primary sources even exist from the <a href=\"https:\/\/americainclass.org\/sources\/makingrevolution\/constitution\/text6\/ramsaywashington1789.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first inauguration<\/a>!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gcss.net\/Inauguration.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">teach the inauguration with primary sources <\/a>\u00a0by making lessons using resources like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.docsteach.org\/documents?filter_searchterm=AND%22president%22+AND%28inauguration+OR+oath%29&amp;searchType=formula&amp;filterEras=&amp;filterDocTypes=&amp;filter_order=&amp;filter_order_Dir=&amp;rt=DMqdFdDuaGC4&amp;reset=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DocsTeach<\/a>, primary source <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/education\/lessons\/worksheets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">analysis worksheets<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/education\/lessons\/inaugural-quiz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the inaugural quiz<\/a>.
