In addition, many other book awards for K-12 books were recently announced. Award-winning books are always an excellent addition to school libraries and classrooms! It&#8217;s like having a ready-made, vetted buying list.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every year, the American Library Association honors outstanding books, videos, and other materials for children and teens. They are selected by committees comprised of librarians and other media experts to encourage original and creative work in the field of children\u2019s and young adult literature and media. You can view the entire 2021 presentation <a href=\"https:\/\/ala.unikron.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>, where a total of 20 different awards were announced. From library displays to resource lists to book talks, they should be your first go-to resource. There are also various <a href=\"http:\/\/www.readwritethink.org\/classroom-resources\/calendar-activities\/today-american-library-association-20625.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">general lesson plan<\/a>s available, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stayingcoolinthelibrary.us\/teaching-about-caldecott-meda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">specialized<\/a> lesson plans based upon specific awards. If you would like to build your own lesson plans, start by building your own targeted book list from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawcl.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">database<\/a> of award-winning books or by watching informative, engaging videos like these about the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/TH2Egdksz7w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Caldecott &amp; Newbery<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/GZTP5vssA6g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Coretta Scott King &amp; Theodor Geisel<\/a> book awards.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other great ways to bring award-winning books into your school and classrooms are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slj.com\/?detailStory=battle-of-the-books-slam-dunk-programming-for-all-ages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">school-wide book battles<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booktrust.org.uk\/news-and-features\/features\/2019\/january\/5-tips-for-creating-a-fun-and-engaging-book-award-in-your-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">school book awards<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scholastic.com\/teachers\/lesson-plans\/teaching-content\/class-book-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">classroom book awards<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/librarianarika.wordpress.com\/2016\/10\/25\/mock-newbery-book-club-a-how-to\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">book clubs<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/geekdad.com\/2017\/01\/mock-ala-youth-media-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mock book awards<\/a>! Book battles can take any <a href=\"https:\/\/knowledgequest.aasl.org\/in-defense-of-battle-of-the-books\/\">form<\/a> you design. The most popular are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.battleofthebooks.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">America&#8217;s Battle of the Books<\/a> and the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.slj.com\/?detailStory=how-do-you-bob-librarians-parents-share-the-ways-theyre-celebrating-battle-of-the-kids-books\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> School Library Journal book battle<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sarajcreations.com\/2017\/03\/classroom-library-book-awards.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Classroom book awards<\/a> can be lots of fun without requiring a large amount of planning and implementation work. <a href=\"https:\/\/nerdybookclub.wordpress.com\/2020\/05\/22\/why-book-clubs-prevail-in-any-type-of-learning-environment-by-lorraine-radice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Book clubs<\/a> are an engaging activity for any classroom or school library and can be based upon any award category or award-winning book. Mock book awards are popular and can be implemented based on criteria from different awards like the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.slj.com\/?detailStory=and-the-winner-isa-mini-mock-caldecott-programming-cookbook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Caldecott<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/100scopenotes.com\/2012\/11\/20\/mock-caldecott-2013-the-set-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Newbery<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slj.com\/?detailStory=mocking-the-geisel-guessing-geisel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Theodore Geisel awards<\/a>.\u00a0However you choose to bring award-winning books into your classroom, you will be glad you did!
