The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/aasl\/advocacy\/slm\/history\">first School Library Month<\/a> took place in 1985 with the theme &#8220;Where Learning Never Ends: The School Library Media Center&#8221; and was spearheaded by Lucille Thomas, chair of the School Library Media Month Committee. This year, choose your own theme to celebrate School Library Month! The American Association of School Libraries offers a variety of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/aasl\/advocacy\/slm\">resources<\/a> to help you celebrate, like graphics, PowerPoint templates, posters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL0mICHe7poqaEu46RJJjO3mWnn17hLVFm\">PSAs<\/a>, and resources to help you plan your celebration around a variety of themes. School Library Month is a great time to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/aasl\/advocacy\/\">advocate<\/a> for your library and the services and resources <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slj.com\/?detailStory=advocate-this-not-that\">available<\/a>. Let everyone know <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.tcea.org\/school-library-month\/\">why<\/a> your library is so amazing and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebsco.com\/blogs\/ebscopost\/top-10-ways-celebrate-school-library-month\">celebrate<\/a> with students using contests and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quia.com\/shared\/library_science\/\">games<\/a> they\u2019ll love. Teach them&nbsp; something new about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.readwritethink.org\/classroom-resources\/lesson-plans\/world-readers-libraries-around-1057.html\">libraries<\/a> or plan some special library <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/aasl\/sites\/ala.org.aasl\/files\/content\/advocacy\/events\/SLM19_Activity_Ideas2.pdf\">lessons<\/a>. Whether you are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smore.com\/164gb-school-library-month\">virtual<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.book-pal.com\/education\/get-inspired-amazing-school-library-ideas\">in-person<\/a>, have some fun with your celebration!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What better way to celebrate School Library Month than to celebrate and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nea.org\/advocating-for-change\/new-from-nea\/get-students-reading-10-tips-school-library-month\">read<\/a>! Host a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stayingcoolinthelibrary.us\/booktasting\/\">book tasting<\/a>, plan a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readerpants.net\/2018\/12\/start-a-reading-challenge.html\">school wide book challenge<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomahawk.k12.wi.us\/covid19\/school-library-month-tictactoe.pdf\">handout a mini book challenge<\/a>. Encourage students to share <a href=\"http:\/\/teacher.scholastic.com\/activities\/swyar\/write.asp\">book reviews<\/a> or create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goalexandria.com\/how-to-make-book-trailers-with-your-students\/\">book trailers<\/a>. Share booklists with students, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.btsb.com\/state-award-lists\/\">state book award lists<\/a> or more specialized lists like the <a href=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/EZB7jJHXgAEAiLj.jpg\">ProjectLit<\/a> list. Attend a virtual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.libraryjournal.com\/?event=prh-book-author-festival\">spring book and author festival<\/a> or do something as simple as making time for students to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/blog\/cultivating-love-reading-students-elena-aguilar\">read<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As always, TeachersFirst is a great first stop for resources!
