NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month! Taking place every November since 1999, it is a challenge to would-be writers of all ages, including students. The adult challenge is to begin a novel on November 1 and have a 50,000-word novel by the end of the month. Creative writing promotes self-expression and imagination, improves communication and empathy, builds confidence, and helps students become better writers. Bringing the NaNoWriMo young writers&#8217; challenge <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Wu_5h7fk4hE\" target=\"_blank\">to your classroom<\/a> is an <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vbdw_rJPVo4\" target=\"_blank\">easy-to-implement<\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/discussion\/nanowrimo-eduawesome-project-your-bestyearever\" target=\"_blank\">fun way to get your students writing<\/a>. There are many <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/wakelet.com\/wake\/479b3ca7-379d-418b-907b-08c3554633ff\" target=\"_blank\">resources<\/a> for teachers preparing to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/blog\/national-novel-writing-month-laura-bradley\" target=\"_blank\">take on NaNoWriMo<\/a>. The NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program offers a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ywp.nanowrimo.org\/pages\/teaching-resources\" target=\"_blank\">wide variety of resources<\/a>, from lesson plans to workbooks to free classroom kits. The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nanoteacher.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">NaNoWriMo Classroom website<\/a> by Laura Bradley provides everything you need to implement the program step by step. In addition, there are <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/tech-based-teaching\/tips-and-tech-for-tackling-nanowrimo-in-the-classroom-116265f00ccb\" target=\"_blank\">tips and tricks<\/a> for teachers, a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/nanowrimo-tips-from-5th-grade\/id1254445778?i=1000394787397\" target=\"_blank\">podcast by fifth graders<\/a> with tips and tricks for students, and even an article discussing how to implement NaNoWriMo in a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilinguallyyours.com\/yes-you-can-do-nanowrimo-in-spanish-class\/\" target=\"_blank\">foreign language classroom<\/a>! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not ready to have students write a complete novel? Have students use a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/writingexercises.co.uk\/firstlinegenerator.php\" target=\"_blank\">first-line generator<\/a> to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pentoprint.org\/first-line-generator\/\" target=\"_blank\">start a story<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/article\/how-use-images-teach-creative-writing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">use images to teach creative writing<\/a>.
