Turn your curiosity about AI in education into informed, confident practice! During our summer book study, we’ll embark on an immersive steampunk adventure through AI & Civic Engagement: 75+ Cross-Curricular Activities to Empower Your Students and explore how generative AI can deepen critical thinking, encourage digital citizenship, and empower students to engage with real issues in their communities. During this gamified professional learning opportunity, you will:
- Discuss the research-based case for AI integration, how to select tools that align with your needs, and the ins and outs of ethical AI use for both teachers and students.
- Explore ISTE-Standards-aligned learning plans, activities, and prompt templates you can implement in any subject with minimal planning time.
- Learn how to encourage civic engagement and support AI literacy across the curriculum.

Schedule & Program Highlights
Our summer book study starts July 6 and ends August 18. Educators can expect to spend 3 hours per week reading, responding to prompts, giving feedback, and completing activities. Over the course of our 8-week program, you will:
- Read and discuss AI and Civic Engagement by Torrey Trust and Robert W. Maloy and connect with educators from various backgrounds through thoughtfully designed asynchronous discussions.
- Create a character, complete guild challenges, and earn badges as you progress through a steampunk-themed learning adventure.
- Experiment with AI tools for educators in a supportive, first-timer-friendly environment.
- Build a toolkit of research-based instructional strategies, learning plans, and teacher-tested activities aligned to the ISTE standards for students.
- Attend a live Q&A with the authors near the end of the book study.
- Earn 13 professional development units (PDUs) for fully participating in our book study, and up to 25 PDUs for completing all optional activities!
- Receive $30 reimbursement for successfully completing the book study.
