Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is a secure, AI-powered tool available to Microsoft 365 subscribers, supporting functions like drafting content, summarizing information, brainstorming, analyzing files, and generating visuals. It keeps data private, aligns with existing security policies, and aids educators with lesson planning, feedback, collaboration, and compliance.

tag(s): artificial intelligence (231), digital literacy (28), editing (84), summarizing (25)

In the Classroom

After collecting survey data or conducting a class experiment, students can use Excel and Copilot to summarize findings and generate graphs, demonstrating how AI supports effective data analysis and visualization. Following this, have students draft a paragraph, story, or essay and then work with Copilot to review grammar, tone, or structure, which promotes self-editing and reflective writing while reinforcing digital literacy. To further integrate Copilot, assign students a topic (e.g., climate change, a historical figure, or a math concept) and let them use the tool to create a summary. Then, have them evaluate the AI response, verify the information, and present their findings with their own enhancements.

Let students explore key character choices from a novel or short story. Each decision in the branching scenario leads to different consequences, helping students analyze character motivation and plot development. Develop a branching timeline and assign students to explore alternate historical outcomes (e.g., "What if the colonies didn't declare independence?"). For SEL or health education, create branching stories about peer interactions, bullying, or decision-making under peer pressure. Students can see the impact of different choices in a safe, guided format.

Genially's escape room templates are designed to be adaptable for a wide range of grade levels. The platform offers a variety of themes and levels of complexity, allowing educators to tailor the content to their students' ages and learning objectives. For example, simpler games like Candyland or Children's Game templates are well-suited for younger students, while more intricate scenarios, such as the Artificial Intelligence Escape Room or Time Machine Escape, are ideal for older students seeking a challenge. Educators can customize these templates to align with their curriculum, making them versatile tools for engaging students across different educational stages.

In the Classroom

Customize a Genially escape room (like Education Escape Room or Mystery Breakout) with questions and puzzles that review key concepts from your current unit--perfect as a fun pre-test or review session. Divide students into small groups and assign them different puzzles or tasks within the escape game. This activity encourages teamwork, communication, and shared problem-solving as they work toward a common goal. Challenge students to create their digital escape rooms using Genially's templates. They must design puzzles, write clues, and embed subject content, transforming them from game players into game designers. Use a breakout template to reinforce vocabulary. Each "lock" can be opened only by correctly defining or using academic terms in context, making it ideal for ELA, science, or history.

This AI-powered tool generates social-emotional learning (SEL) plans for any topic and grade level. Begin by adding the grade level, then select the SEL competency to address from the five options: self-awareness, self-management, and others. In the final box, add the topic, standard, or objective to address and include additional details to consider when generating your lesson. After the lesson is generated, use the available options to request changes and modify the lesson to fit your needs. Download or save your lesson plan document using the options available at the Manage Content dropdown box.

tag(s): artificial intelligence (231), social and emotional learning (134), Teacher Utilities (184)

In the Classroom

Save this lesson generator for many different classroom uses. Create lessons to build social-emotional learning skills that address the needs of your students or incorporate SEL thinking processes into lessons that require students to understand different perspectives, such as the civil rights movement or the environmental impacts of pollution. Take time to develop the prompt for the final box to include specific information for the type of lesson to create, teaching frameworks to include, technology to incorporate, and consideration of thinking routines. For example, use a prompt such as "the civil rights movement of the 1960s, include five station rotation activities; one should be technology-based" to generate a SEL lesson. Consider adding Thinking Routines, reviewed here that encourages students to use perspective to consider others' thoughts, experiences, and feelings.

In the Classroom

Use this song generator to engage students in any subject. For example, ask Suno to create lyrics and music to coincide with upcoming holidays and classroom events. Try asking Suno to make an upbeat song about your field trip to the zoo or a jazz song that includes information about New Orleans, and play the song for students as a schema activator for your lesson. Create songs with specific vocabulary terms for students to use as a learning aid or produce songs that assist multilingual learners in learning English. App smash Suno with MagicSchool's Song Generator, reviewed here by asking MagicSchool to create a song using any topic and details, then copy the lyrics into Suno to turn the lyrics into any genre desired. Ask students to use Suno to make a song that accompanies a research project or multimedia presentation, then include the song with other presentation elements built into a simple website created with edublogs, reviewed here or another free website builder like Strikingly, reviewed here.

In the Classroom

Use this reading passage generator to create introductory and review passages for any subject; no registration is required. Differentiate for student ability levels by selecting different grade levels while providing all students the same information. Take some time to practice generating texts and questions to understand different ways to create questions that meet your needs. For example, when choosing lower elementary grades, sometimes the passages are too short in length. When entering the topic for your prompt, include guidelines for the passage length to create. If you want a passage about stars and planets, have the instructions to make the passage longer than 100 words. Extend learning using other AI tools such as MagicSchool, reviewed here by copying your prompt into one of the many tools available. Use MagicSchool's translator tool to translate for multilanguage learners, generate a list of vocabulary words, or create a science lab activity to accompany your chosen text and topic.
