Figjam is an online collaborative whiteboard with many built-in versatile tools for classroom use. The whiteboard offers infinite space to add templates, drawings, and areas for conversations and projects. In addition, interactive elements allow members to react to ideas with emojis, high-fives, and stamps. Create an account to begin using Figjam and access all of its features. Create your Figjam board by selecting the purple "+Figjam Board" link near the top of the home page. Add features to your whiteboard by choosing from the many options available, including drawing and writing tools, a timer, and an AI generator to create items such as timelines and mindmaps. Share your Figjam board with others by copying the link, sending an email, or copying the embed code onto a webpage.

In the Classroom
Use Figjam in many different ways to engage learners and support classroom instruction. Google Jamboard, reviewed here is a similar but less robust tool than Figjam and will not be supported after December 31, 2024. Import your current Jamboards into Figjam using the "Import" button so you don't lose access to those files after Jamboard shuts down. When working in Figjam, use sticky notes as a collaborative activity to brainstorm ideas and information as a class. Use the drawing tools and ask students to label places, parts of plants, and more. Use Figjam templates to create all-about-me activities, such as class check-in and exit ticket activities, Frayer Model activities, and much more. Figma is a collaborative, online design tool that allows members to create websites, applications, logos, and more. One beneficial resource included in Figma is Figjam, an online collaborative whiteboard. Figjam features include a built-in chat, auto-layout, and features that allow you to create visually appealing and interactive presentations. Create a free account and log in to your account to explore the Figma community to find inspiration that includes files, templates, plugins, and widgets. Use the filters to narrow down searches to include free items to make browsing more productive. Share Figma and Figjam creations with others using a link or embed code. The free plan includes three Figma and three Figjam files; however, educators can upgrade to the professional program for free. Professional plans include what is available under the free plan and unlimited Figjam files for free, team libraries, and audio libraries. FYI - In October of 2024 Google Jamboard will sunset (close down). The good news is Figjam will have a tool to convert Jamboards to Figjam.

Witeboard is a free and simple-to-use online whiteboard. Begin using the whiteboard without registration; click and draw! Then, use the tools at the bottom of the screen to change colors, add lines, add text, and more. Next, use the two lines at the bottom left of the whiteboard to find additional options that allow you to switch to a blackboard, include shape detection, and download and save the board as an image. Another option for sharing your board is using the share link at the top of the page; this option makes the board collaborative by including multiple participants. Registration isn't required; creating an account allows you to access previous boards on any device.

Save the link to Witeboard to use for many different classroom options. For example, when working with small groups of students, use Witeboard to draw and share ideas on your mobile device. When students are working on computers, ask them to use Witeboard to demonstrate their understanding of math problems or draw a quick response to stories they read. Annotate offers several tools that allow educators to use their whiteboards while remaining completely mobile in the classroom. Use the projection feature to project information from a mobile device onto your whiteboard from anywhere in the room. Free plans offer up to two hours of sharing daily. Add the optional extension to Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers to annotate web pages, take screen captures, and highlight online information. Enroll up to ten students in a course to allow students to follow your screen on their device. Once you create a class, use Annotate to live stream information, take assessments, and schedule homework. Annotate also has a built-in graphing calculator that is handy for math instructors.

Miro includes many templates for creating flow charts, mind maps, and planning activities. After creating an account, add a new board. Use the dashboard to add notes, templates, add comments, upload items from your computer, and much more. Collaborate with others by sharing the URL for your Miro board. Free accounts allow you to include an unlimited number of team members and create three editable boards.

Collaborate, share, teach, and interact with students using Whiteboard.chat. Use the teaching mode to create, assign, and teach live lessons. The teaching mode also includes uploading a multipage PDF document and assigning multiple pages as workbooks to individual students. Use the collaborative method to work within a collaborative workspace with other users. After entering the teaching mode, use the toolbar to access drawing tools, upload images and documents, and manage the look and content of your board. Once students enter a whiteboard session using a shared code or link through Canvas or Google Classroom, they can download any shared workbook pages. Student tools include an area to raise their hand to receive help, request a break, indicate work is finished, or request to speed up or slow down the lesson. Observe students using the grid view that provides a thumbnail view of individual student whiteboards. Additional features include a timer, a list of participants, options to create breakout rooms, and settings to lock students from updating boards prematurely. Registration isn't required; however, it allows you to manage and save boards for later use.

IdeaBoardz is an easy-to-use a collaborative whiteboard created for brainstorming and sharing ideas. Instead of starting with a blank board and adding information, IdeaBoardz provides several options for creating boards from templates. Choose to create a board, add a name and description to begin. Use the dropdown box to select the type of board from choices such as pro and con or creating from up to ten sections. Next, share your board using the URL provided. Finally, participants select the plus sign located next to a heading to add a sticky note and type comments. Registration is not required; however, creating an account allows participants to revisit saved boards.

Free accounts offer you the ability to create and use a whiteboard and the accompanying tools without registration. Temporary rooms are deleted following two hours of inactivity. Choose the option to start a new class and follow the steps to begin a session. Options allow you to create a waiting room where students have to be allowed into the whiteboard area and include a save mode that adapts for participants with limited internet strength. Once the room is created, share the URL or QR Code with students. The whiteboard tools include text, drawing, images, and more. Google Jamboard is a collaborative, online whiteboard application. Use the tool options to access the pen, eraser, add sticky notes, and upload images. Jamboard also includes some limited options to change the background. Add "frames" to create whiteboard displays similar to a slide show. Email the link to your board to add collaborators using the share icon. Be sure to select the drop-down box to add collaborators as editors, not just viewers. When finished, use the three dots near the top of the page to rename your Jamboard, download your work as a PDF, save as an image. All work automatically saves within your Google Drive account. In October of 2024 Google Jamboard will sunset (close down). Jamboards will not be supported after December 31, 2024. Share any location to begin an online session with a map of the area already in the background. Allow access from your computer to include audio or video discussions. Draw.Chat also offers multiple whiteboard pages for use during sessions allowing for flexibility in sharing different materials. Sketchboard is an online collaborative whiteboard tool that contains unlimited drawing space. The free plan allows up to 5 users, three private boards, and unlimited public boards. In the Classroom
Allow students to create collaborative drawings as responses to literature. They can map out the plot or themes, add labels, create character studies, and more. Share the finished products on an interactive whiteboard, projector, or your class website. Have a group of students create a drawing so that another group can use it as a writing prompt. Use a board as a brainstorming or sketching space as groups (or the class) share ideas for a major project or for solving a real-world problem. Use this tool with students in a computer lab (or on laptops) to create a drawing of the setting in a story as it is read aloud. As an assessment idea, have students draw out a simple cartoon with stick figures to explain a more complex process such as how democracy works. If you are lucky enough to teach in a BYOD setting, use Sketchboard to demonstrate and illustrate any concept while students use the chat and drawing tools to interact in real time. If you are studying weather, have students diagram the layers of the atmosphere and what happens during a thunderstorm, for example. Introduce this tool to students who are working on group projects. Alternatively, have students use this to work as partners or as a small team to complete complex math problems or equations. Twiddla is an online meeting space and collaboration tool that is like having a whiteboard skin placed over any website or image so you can draw and more. Discover options available in the practice area named the Sandbox. Choose options for collaboration such as a url, uploaded image or document, or collaborate together on a blank screen. Use the Invite button to share the collaboration url via email or copy/paste. Take a snapshot of your session at any time and export as an image. Pro Accounts offer additional features, such as screen captures and password protection. Receive these services free as an educator, find the directions in the FAQ.

Take a screenshot and add to your classroom webpage for students to view at home for review. Have a flipped classroom?
