Have students create a simple timeline using MyLens, reviewed here of events related to Cinco de Mayo, focusing on the historical background and how the celebration has evolved over time. Have students compare Cinco de Mayo to another holiday (such as Independence Day or another cultural celebration). On July 4, 2026, the Declaration of Independence will mark its 250th anniversary. In partnership with C-SPAN Classroom, the Florida Joint Center for Citizenship features nine lessons that will allow students to learn America's story, the founding principles, and its continued quest for a "more perfect union." Lessons will allow students to analyze primary and secondary sources and review concepts such as contextualization, comparison, evaluation, and analysis. Monthly professional learning webinars for educators to gain a deeper understanding of the perspectives are also shared on the site. Finally, a General Pacing Guide and a Florida Pacing Guide are available.

Not only will these crafts and activities allow students to express their creativity, but they will also learn a little about diversity, science, math, and reading. Unfortunately, there are too many activities to list here. Still, a few interesting titles are Create Fireworks in a Jar, Conduct a Baking Soda Science Experiment, Create a Soft Circuit, Write a Patriotic Poem (with the letters of your first name), and plenty more!

Despite the endless verbiage on the home page, this site offers many options, ranging from the United States Constitution and Amendments to the Supreme Court. Each topic has an overview, sub-topics, and then quizzes to test your knowledge. Select Constitution Day 2023 and find a poster contest, treasure hunts, and crossword puzzles! On some surveys and quizzes, you may be prompted for your age and state, but it's optional. You can click the link to see the results and bypass the personal information. Most of this site is designed for older elementary students (and above). However, some of the Constitution Day activities may be useful in the K-2 classrooms.

This is an excellent site for both introducing and reinforcing topics about the Constitution. Teachers can print out crossword puzzles for a "What Do I Know" activity. Students could find out which founding father they are in the interactive portion (under IQ Challenges) and create a multimedia project on the result. Challenge students to use Image Annotator. The Image Annotator site allows you to add text and links to a picture. Challenge students to find a photo (legally permitted for reproduction) and then narrate it. What a new twist to an oral report! Students could create a Photostory on their own version of the Story of the Fourth of July. The possibilities are endless. For fun, teachers can present the Real or Fake Quiz on the projector or interactive whiteboard as whole-class instruction, or have discussions after each answer.
