Integrate the ISTE Standards into Your Lessons

The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Students are designed to "empower student voice[s] and ensure that learning is a student-driven process." This week, we highlight tools you can use to bring the Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator standards into your classroom.

Grades K-12

ISTE Standards for Students

If you’re not familiar with the ISTE Standards for Students, this resource from the International Society for Technology in Education will tell you everything you need to know about the seven standards and their respective indicators for success.

Grades 8-12

Flock

Meet both the Empowered Learner and the Global Collaborator standards as students work together and build networks with this free service. Securely communicate one-to-one or connect with a group via text or video conference.

Grades 9-12

Feedly

The Knowledge Constructor standard calls for students to learn by curation and evaluation of resources. Use this digital news aggregator to curate, organize, and share content from all of your favorite sites in one place.

Grades 6-12

Online Charts

Collecting, analyzing, and representing data is part of the Computational Thinker standard. Use this tool to input data quickly, experiment with multiple visual displays, and discover the advantages and disadvantages of each graphic type.

Grades 2-12

WordClouds

Word clouds provide an opportunity for students to use digital tools to communicate creatively, an essential part of the Creative Communicator standard. Use WordClouds to create custom visualizations using your own source text, colors, and font.

Grades 5-9

Digital Compass

The Digital Citizen standard challenges students to learn to manage their digital identity. In Digital Compass, a browser-based educational game, middle school students learn about various digital topics as they play as eight unique characters.

Grades K-12

The Educator's Guide to Building and Construction

Meet the Innovative Designer standard with this collection of lessons, activities, projects and videos that engage students in real-world activities, such as building birdhouses and analyzing electric circuits, to encourage process-driven problem solving.

Grades 8-12

Believe it or Not?

This tool from NewseumEd teaches students about media literacy, part of the Knowledge Constructor standard, using lessons and discussion questions to help students think critically about sources and tell the difference between good and bad information.

Grades K-12

Kiddom

To meet the Empowered Learner standard, students actively participate in the learning process, set personal learning goals, and use technology for assessments. This online tool helps you manage and evaluate assignments and provide instant feedback.
