Get Ready for Digital Citizenship Week 2022

Digital Citizenship Week is coming up on October 17–21! The purpose of this week is to teach students to be safe and competent when using technology. Check out these ten resources you can use in your lessons to help your students become good digital citizens.  

Grades K-12

Digital Citizenship Resources

Every adult in a student’s life, including teachers in all subject areas and parents at home, has the responsibility of modeling and helping students learn about digital citizenship. This collection shares reviewed resources for all grades.

Grades 6-9

My Social Media Life

This 45-minute lesson provides guidance to middle-school students about the role of social media in their lives, especially the effect of social media on relationships. Don't miss the slide presentation, video, and student handouts.

Grades 5-9

Google Digital Literacy & Citizenship Curriculum

Explore this three-part, standards-based curriculum about digital literacy and citizenship. The three topics are evaluating the credibility of online information, maintaining a positive online reputation, and avoiding online tricks and scams.

Grades 1-6

Ruff Ruffman - Humble Media Genius

Ruff Ruffman is a comical canine who sets out to teach kids ages 6–11 about being responsible digital citizens. Short animated video clips answer questions about posting photos, texting, and searching and remind students to ask adults for help.

Grades K-3

Who Is in Your Online Community?

This engaging, standards-aligned lesson plan for elementary students includes a slide presentation, student handouts, and take-home resources that promote family understanding and engagement. Free registration is required to access the lesson plan.

Digital Citizenship: Technological Literacy

It’s essential that students understand how to use technology properly and responsibly. These videos help students understand concepts such as the role influencers play on social media, editorial accuracy, and why people are susceptible to disinformation.

Be Internet Awesome

Be Internet Awesome is a series of resources from Google that you can use to teach digital safety. One can’t-miss resource is Interland, an online interactive that allows students to practice skills to combat phishers, hackers, and cyberbullies.

Grades 4-12

Social Media Test Drive

Use this unique series of interactive modules to help students practice digital citizenship skills through a social media simulation. Each module includes tutorials, guided activities, and opportunities for reflection.

Grades 2-6

The Adventures of Kara, Winston and the SMART Crew

Discover five cartoons for ages 7–11 all about being SMART online. Click on Teachers & Professionals and slide to resources to search for other activities by age or topic. Share these lessons in your class or as part of blended learning activities.
