Lincoln Lesson Idea: Great Leadership!
Level - Middle School
Subjects - Social Studies, History, Government, Writing, Language Arts
Objectives:
Students will define the criteria for what makes a great leader by interviewing various people.
Activity:
Have students interview people at random in school hallways or at home about what they think of Abraham Lincoln. What made him one of our nation's greatest leaders? What could our current administration learn from Lincoln? Publish responses and photos of the people interviewed throughout the month of February on a class blog or website. Be sure to share your findings with local newspapers or TV stations as you approach Lincoln's birthday. They might even feature your class' work!
Thanks to inspiration from this site for ideas offered here in significantly altered form.
Tips:
You may want to list this activity on your class website prior to assigning so parents have time to contact distant relatives to participate in the interview!
