Lincoln Lesson Idea: Address Dissection

Objectives:
Students will dissect and interpret the words and meaning of the Gettysburg Address.
Activity:
Take one sentence per week from the Gettysburg Address and share it on an interactive whiteboard, projector, or bulletin board. Add images, explanations of words, and any other annotations so students can understand it. Save the interactive whiteboard files, and have students make it into their own visual interpretation of the speech on PowerPoint slides. Have students work in cooperative learning groups.
Tips:
Have students use animation to make the text "come to life." Examples of such "illuminated texts" are included in A Way To Teach.
