In the Classroom
After selecting and completing some of the lessons and activities found in "Learning From the Fossil Record," challenge students to choose one for themselves to extend their learning. Ask them to either post blog notes or create a concept map to organize and share their learning and understanding using using tools like Telegra.ph, reviewed here. With Telegra.ph you just click on an icon to upload images from your computer, add a YouTube or Vimeo, or X (formerly Twitter) links. This blog creator requires no registration. Alternatively, you could use an interactive concept map like MindMup, reviewed here. If you'd like to take this a step further ask students to create and interactive poster using Genial.ly, reviewed here, to share their learning with their peers. With Genial.ly students can insert maps, surveys, video, audio and more. Students could also keep all their work in a digital portfolio using Mahara, reviewed here.Fire Ants! - Texas A&M University

Use this site as an anticipatory set or "activator" to introduce a unit or lesson on a projector. Explain the principles that lay behind endangered species, give a brief tutorial on using the website, and then divide students into small cooperative learning groups. Have each group pick a section on the website, such as "causes," "why help," etc. Have each student review and research their section, with the intentions of providing a brief presentation of their findings to their peers. To show what they have learned from this site, challenge students to create an online infographic to share using Visme, reviewed here.Edwards Aquifer Information Page

Share this site on an interactive whiteboard or projector during a unit on the classification of animal kingdoms. The site provides a good example of the classifications, and can be easily searched for specific species if students are doing a research project. Forewarning: the classifications are all the Latin names of the reptiles, so it is best to know the creature you're searching for beforehand. Allow students to explore the site on their own, and post on the teacher web page if there are any research projects to allow students to access it both in and out of the classroom.Amazon River Dolphins - Virtual Explorers
