There's far more than the usual author-site goodies at this British site devoted to author Roald Dahl. There are lesson plans to download based on several of Dahl's books and a special set of six lesson plans for Pre School. There is lots of interesting activities for students, and the material is well-written.

tag(s): authors (114), book lists (161), reading lists (76)

In the Classroom

Take advantage of Roald Dahls lesson plans to delight your primary and Pre-K students while they are learning! There are so many entertaining learning activities that you may want to review the story later in the year and use the literacy activities as review and reinforcement, tool.

Comments

This is a great resource for teachers using Roald Dahl's books in the classroom or for librarians leading a book club! There are lesson plans you can download for his books. I expected to see interactive ways for kids to explore the plots of the books as well. However, this website doesn't offer those. Still, this is a nice website for teachers! Laurie, , Grades: 0 - 12

One of the faculty Miami University of Ohio has created an on-line database designed to help teachers build thematic units for young children around picture books. The only user interface is a fairly sparse search engine which prompts with selections of keywords for each of the various categories. While awkward at first, this becomes more intuitive as you use it. Search results include bibliographic information and short plot summaries. Once you get the hang of it, this could be a nice way to build thematic units for younger children.

Share a few Booklist reviews and let students vote on which titles should be added to the classroom library. This builds excitement and gives students a voice in reading selections. Use reviews to introduce new genres (historical fiction, fantasy, memoir, graphic novels). Students can compare books across genres and reflect on their preferences. Use Booklist reviews to introduce new authors. Students can research the author, explore themes, and connect the book to class units.

This page offers links to a number of Milton's major works. It is part of a larger site created for an English literature course at Dartmouth College. Useful as an introductory exposure to Milton's work.

In the Classroom

Use the texts from these sites as samples for grammar study, literature, and more. Since the works are in the public domain, you may copy/paste the text into files to print, for use on an interactive whiteboard, or as the text portion of multimedia projects.

Some ideas: Students can use these digital texts and add digital photographs, for example, for creative projects using poetry and images on a specific theme. Students could also collect examples of different literary devices and put them into a PowerPoint show with images or explanations.
