The EU has created a web page that provides summary information in a format with which most students can cope. This site is still somewhat Eurocentric, but it outlines the basic principles behind European cooperation and economic interdependence. As such, it could be a valuable starting point for students interested in exploring the future of Europe.

Use this site as an introductory point for a unit on economic unions such as the EU. Have students explore the site in pairs or cooperative learning groups in order to understand more about the principles and advantages of membership. This activity works well with a graphic organizer to guide students OR as a means for students to explore on their own with the intentions of presenting what they deem to be the most important points to the class. In the Classroom
An excellent addition to any unit on Early - Modern British history! Assign students monarchs for your appropriate time period, and have them research the site to find out more about their specific person. Have each student create a quick biography of their monarch in an attempt to show how important their roles were to English Society. Have students create a multimedia presentation using PowerPoint Online, reviewed here. This site allows users to narrate a picture. Challenge students to find a photo (legally permitted to be reproduced), and then narrate the photo as if it is a news report. In the Classroom
In a personal economy lesson, use this site to help students "plan a trip" to Paris. Assign students to cooperative learning groups, with each group receiving a hypothetical amount of money, and directions to find lodging, food, transportation while surveying the sites of Paris. This is a great way to teach students how to budget with real world prices and figures. For an emphasis on French history, require students to participate in certain tourist activities in their hypothetical situation - simultaneously creating challenges to their budgets. This is certainly a nice way to introduce French geography and culture. The site incluea a section for kids and a quiz. Note: to read in French, click the French flag.
Some of the interactive tour portions require a special Active X plug-in. When prompted, you will need to install these.

Feeds include the Library of Congress, quotes and sayings from Thomas Jefferson, and HistoryDay (see what happened on this day in history), and many more.
