History students can investigate the evolution of justice by comparing trial outcomes for specific crimes across different centuries. After selecting a series of related trials, students can organize their primary source evidence and collaborative notes within Google Keep, reviewed here to build a comprehensive research bank. To deepen the analysis, students can use the "Doing Statistics" feature to identify patterns in sentencing, such as the decline of the "Bloody Code," and then transform their findings into an interactive, multimedia chronology using History in Motion, reviewed here. This process engages students in authentic historical inquiry, enhances their ability to interpret fragmented primary sources, and extends their learning by connecting individual stories to broader societal changesYou must be registered and logged in to add items to your favorites.

Use the ballads on this site as a means to combine history and creative writing. Show students several of the ballad examples over the interactive whiteboard, allowing volunteers to read aloud some of the pieces. Based on the styles and lyrics seen, have students write their own ballads summarizing some point of Medieval culture or history. For a fun break, have students read aloud their ballads to the class - it's always interesting to see how creative people can get!Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

Introduce this site on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Use the menus to explore the "hidden" content. Then divide the class into small groups based on their area of interest and have them research their topic. Challenge them to research other sources to learn even more about the palace and its inhabitants. Enhance student learning by asking the small groups to use a multimedia tool such as Genially, reviewed here, to present to their peers what they learned about the palace and its inhabitants.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

History and Politics Out Loud
Grades
9 to 12In the Classroom
Use this site to supplement a lecture on Martin Luther King and the impact of his "I have a dream" speech. Browse the results by speaker and select the speech under King's collection. After discussing King's role in civil rights, play the clip or as much of it as you can for students. Use the audio as a writing prompt, in which students respond to the difference in hearing vs reading the speech. Students should also respond to the emotional appeal of the speech, in addition to the overall message presented. This activity would be a great short review at the end of a unit on MLK Jr.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

Teachers should plan on spending ample time previewing the site before using it in class. Initially, view the video as a class and have a discussion. Have small groups choose which of the extension activities they would like to investigate. Allow students to create a final project other than an essay to share their findings and present to the class. Suggest something like an online poster using Genially reviewed here, or a simple infographic using Snappa reviewed here.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member
