In the Classroom
Bookmark and save this handy tool for many classroom uses. Displayed through a visual timeline, this is an excellent way for students to look at information and provide context through the order of events. Create a timeline to share on your interactive whiteboard when studying historical characters and events. Use the editing tool to narrow down information by specific dates or delete items irrelevant to your lesson. Ask students to compare and contrast people or events to help them get perspective on events leading up to important moments in history. For example, create a timeline for Thomas Jefferson and another for Alexander Hamilton and ask students to compare and contrast important events in their lives and consider how these impacted their view on America's founding principles. Have students share their reflections and information on a simple webpage created using Carrd, reviewed here. Expand learning further by asking students to use a presentation tool such as Sway, reviewed here, to demonstrate understanding. Ask students to include a link to their Wikipedia timeline along with images, Venn diagram comparisons, and other information found during their research. Follow the directions to create a list of items to add to your newsfeed, then add images if desired. Your newsfeed automatically plays and advances through your list; however, it also provides an option to pause during the feed. When finished, use the URL or QR code to share your Newsfeed Generator or use the embed code to embed to your website.

Add the Newsfeed Generator to many classroom lessons. Share a newsfeed on your whiteboard to engage students at the beginning of a new unit. Provide a set of clues and use their responses to gauge prior understanding. Create newsfeeds to announce field trips, locate areas of interest for social studies lessons, or point out locations in novels and other reading material. Have students create their own newsfeed as an activity for sharing a favorite location, where they were born, or to begin a biography of a famous person or series of historical events such as the civil rights movement. Although Joystick is royalty-free, they do require attribution to use it for free legally. Joystock is an excellent resource to bookmark for use in a variety of classroom projects. Share with students to use when creating podcasts, videos, or any multimedia project. Choose a calming tune to play as students enter your classroom or a more lively selection to get students inspired to begin their day. Use music from Joystock when creating videos with online tools such as Kapwing, reviewed here. For example, use the Travel Promo template found in Kapwing to create a short video tour of a location studied during geography class. Add music from Joystock to set the appropriate mood and create a professional-looking and sounding video. Undraw is an open-source resource for image designs to use with any application. Choose from a huge library of images available in PNG and SVG formats. Use the color generator to customize and change the image color to fit your needs. Although only a portion of each image changes color, the effect is significant and very helpful for various needs. Take advantage of the search feature to browse through the many available images that match your criteria. After selecting an image and color, click to open the picture and choose from options to download to your computer as an SVG or PNG file.
In the Classroom
Be sure to bookmark this resource for images for a variety of classroom uses. Include images from this site in your class newsletter or website. Select interesting images to use for creative writing prompts. Change the color in an image and ask students to compare the two images and reflect upon how the use of color changes an item's mood or tone. Bookmark this site on classroom computers for students to use with their creative projects. Verse by Verse is an experimental poetry-creation project by Google that uses AI (Artificial Intelligence) to help create poems using classic American poets' suggestions. Begin by selecting up to 3 muses for inspiration. If you aren't sure who they are, click on any image to view short biographical information. During the next step, choose a poem structure, syllable count, and rhyme. Enter the first line of your poem and become inspired by options presented by your muses! When finished, choose from options to copy the text or add a border, then download it as a PNG image. Make sure your students know to attribute the AI Generated poem. There are programs out there to detect AI created writing, see GPTZero, reviewed here.

Introduce different forms of poetry and poets using Verse by Verse. Offer students time to explore and experiment with the different features to become familiar with the different types of formats and styles of the included poets. Have students share their poetry digitally by creating an audio podcast using Podbean, reviewed here. Podbean features easy to use tools for creating short audio podcasts. Encourage students to rehearse reading their poetry and add proper intonation, spacing, and reading techniques such as they would for an in-person poetry reading. Besides sharing poems, ask students to add images and record audio, read their poems, and then share their creative process when writing poetry. After selecting to download the images, all files are saved to your computer in a zip folder, open the folder to access all of the shared items. All images are in PSD format for use with Photoshop. Bookmark Twinkl for use throughout the year to find teaching resources for holidays, content topics, and homework ideas. Take advantage of Twinkl Create to easily make and differentiate charts, banners, word mats, and other classroom use printables. When saving favorite materials found on the site, set the popup reminder to remind you to use it later in the year. For example, when you find the End of Year packet, save it to your account and set a reminder for late spring so that it can be included with other items to include when wrapping up the school year or sending home materials for practice over the summer. Twinkl includes free teaching packets by grade level; these packets include activities customized for different ability levels. Use items from teaching packets as part of your center activities or send them home for additional practice as needed. After downloading materials, make your lessons digital using Kami, reviewed here. Use the free version of Kami to upload documents and add highlights, text, comments, and shapes before sharing with students.

Enter a book title, author, or URL to begin selecting the appropriate item from the resulting search. If necessary, add edits to the information such as page number or annotation, then create your citation. Copy and paste your citation into any document or download it to Microsoft Word. Although registration isn't required, creating a free account offers you options, including online storage that makes all items saved accessible from any device.

MyBib is a bibliography and citation generator that offers many different citation styles. Use this simple tool to create and save citations for various resources, including websites, PDFs, and ISBN. Begin by selecting the type of resource from the options bar or drag a PDF onto the site. Follow the prompts that may ask for additional information. When finished, select the download option to copy and add to a document, choose from other options to print, add to Google Drive, and more. Creating an account is optional; however, it allows you to save your citations for future use. MyBib also offers a Chrome extension that creates citations directly from websites.

In the Classroom
Include this tool on all classroom computers and as a link on your class website for student use. This bibliography tool helps students properly format their Works Cited pages. Use this tool to help keep your students (or even yourself) organized! Make sure you teach plagiarism lessons about paraphrasing and proper citation of sources, so students use this tool properly! Take the drudgery out of writing formal papers by emphasizing thinking over mechanics. Whether teaching beginning research or seniors in high school, introduce them to MyBib. For younger students, seeing all the formatting and citing done correctly from the beginning makes sense, whether it is the body of the writing or the bibliography. Add interest to short quizzes using Fling the Teacher! Quickly create and share 15 item quizzes for students to review and practice content using multiple-choice responses. Select the "create your own" link to begin, then follow prompts to add a title and questions with four possible answers. When complete, create your game and share using the URL, QR code, or embed link. If you teach history, be sure to check out the many sample quizzes available for immediate use.

Engage students in content review by creating and sharing quizzes to use in learning centers or at home. Ask students to create their own quizzes to share with peers. Demonstrate how to make quizzes on your interactive whiteboard or create a video tutorial using ScreenPal, reviewed here. This demonstration is especially important so that users know how to avoid ads and use the correct links to creating and playing games (hint: look for the links with the gray highlighted background). ClickUp is a task organizing tool that offers the option to integrate information easily from other productivity applications and to collaborate with others. After creating an account, follow the prompts to create lists, folders, and tasks. Create task lists for projects and use labels to prioritize jobs, import a calendar, add and assign items to collaborators, and much more. Learn more about using and organizing ClickUp by viewing the On-Demand Demo videos found in the Learn tab. Free accounts include up to 100MB storage with unlimited tasks and users.

Use ClickUp to organize your professional life and share it with students to manage their academic and personal needs. Any student would appreciate having an online time management account, but learning support students and disorganized gifted students need one. You may want to model using this online tool to help middle and high school students learn personal organization. Make a demo account for a mythical student and organize his/her academic and individual needs together so students can see how it works. Use the ideas from this site and the teaching guides to engage students in learning by focusing on sharing ideas through only six words. This site is particularly helpful for students who dislike writing or have difficulty expanding on their thoughts. Help students explore and expand word choice options by sharing the Big Huge Thesaurus, reviewed here. After completing their six-word memoirs, ask students to use Canva Edu, reviewed here, to enhance learning by creating posters that further share their thoughts and reflections.

ziplet is a free student response system that works on all devices. Use ziplet to send questions to students instantly or schedule them in advance. After registration, follow the steps to create a group, invite students, and ask questions. Choose from different options for student responses, including multiple-choice, short answer, emoji reactions, or a scaled score from 1-7. Invite students into your group using the provided code. Students use their Google account to login and access questions. Upon receiving responses, Loop provides options for responding to students. Free accounts allow two teachers to use the application with three groups and 50 students per group.
