The GoHenry blog post highlights several kid-safe search engines and browsers that use strong content filtering, mostly based on Google SafeSearch, to help children explore the internet safely and appropriately. Featured tools include Kiddle, Kidoz, KidzSearch, Safe Search Kids, Swiggle, Zoodles, and YouTube Kids, each offering a mix of filtered results, curated content, and parental controls. The article outlines key benefits, including reduced exposure to inappropriate content, fewer personalized ads, and protection against scams. It also cautions that no tool is infallible--active parental involvement, open communication, and monitoring remain crucial. For older children, these filters may feel restrictive and limit access to broader information.

Present students with example search queries and let them test the results on both a standard search engine and a kid-safe one. Discuss differences in results and appropriateness. Create a list of research questions and have students use only a kid-safe search engine to find answers, reinforcing safe browsing habits. Have students design classroom posters that incorporate internet safety tips and instructions on using kid-safe browsers, combining creativity with digital citizenship. The posters can be created digitally using DesignCap Poster Creator, reviewed here.
