Use the images on this site to compliment a lecture on the inventions of the 20th century. While the test is interesting, it might be a little much for a class for of lower-level readers. Include the images as a way to capture the simplicity of original designs, and compare the initial plans of these inventions to the mega-products they are today. The images are interesting, particularly the Crayola tests, and will capture kids attention as they are inventions that have impacted their own lives in a big way.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

Have students choose one AMAP assessment topic (mercury pollution, plastic pollution, radioactivity, or climate change impacts) and read the corresponding "Summary for Policy-makers" document. Students then create their own policy recommendations, public service announcements, or presentations explaining the issue and proposed solutions. This interdisciplinary activity combines science literacy, critical thinking, and civic engagement while helping students understand how scientific research informs real-world policy decisions.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

Solar System Simulator - NASA
Grades
4 to 12tag(s): planets (125), solar system (127)
In the Classroom
Students use the simulator to explore different planets and moons. They create a travel brochure or postcard using Canva reviewed here for a chosen celestial body, describing its features, climate, and why someone might "visit." Students observe and compare planetary orbits in the simulator. They record differences in orbital speed, distance from the Sun, and revolution time, then discuss how these factors affect a planet's temperature and seasons. Using the simulator, students compare the sizes and distances of planets. They then create a scaled model using everyday objects (ex.: a basketball for Jupiter, a marble for Mercury) to represent the relative sizes and distances. Students design a space mission using the simulator. They pick a starting point (Earth, a spacecraft, or another planet) and determine the best route to another celestial body. They calculate travel time based on distances and research how NASA plans spaceflight routes.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member
