In the Classroom

Introduce this activity with a projector or on an interactive whiteboard to show students how to navigate the site. Then, in your flipped or blended classroom (or at a computer center), have students explore on their own. Ask students to create blogs sharing their learning and understanding using Telegra.ph, reviewed here. With Telegra.ph you just click on an icon to upload images from your computer, add a YouTube or Vimeo, or X (formerly Twitter) links. This blog creator requires no registration. Enhance student learning and allow pairs or small groups of students to explore Related Activities and share what they learned with their peers using an interactive poster like Marq (formerly Lucidpress), reviewed here.

From an exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, this site offers an introduction to Einstein's work that mere mortals can understand. Einstein set the world of physics and cosmology on its head by showing that forces like time and gravity are variable, not constant. The implications of these discoveries let to the creation of entirely new sciences. There is much to learn here.

NASA's Apollo program site offers a one-stop collection of resources about the American manned moon landing program. Users can select mission-by -mission accounts of the program's progress, with lots of photos and text on each mission. Use this site as an in-class activity during a unit on modern space exploration. Introduce this site on an interactive whiteboard or with a projector before allowing cooperative learning groups to explore it independently. To show what they have learned from this site, challenge students to create an online graphic to share using Visme. The text portions are challenging, so you should pair weaker readers with a partner as they research on this site.

The BBC Science page on robots offers still another approach to the topic, along with its own collection of robotics kits and materials. We're unsure how accessible these might be in the US; perhaps our UK users will let us know more. There's plenty to learn here, nonetheless. Though the page is no longer updated, it is fully functional.
