After viewing a video about art techniques or historical art movements, students can create their own artwork using the methods discussed. Following a ClickView science video, organize a hands-on experiment related to the video's content. For example, if the video discusses ecosystems, students can create mini-ecosystems in a jar. After watching a video on a literary topic or a story, have students create their own short stories or scripts incorporating themes, characters, or settings from the video. Create an account to begin, then add an assignment that includes grade level, background information, and the essay prompt. Next, choose from available rubrics or design your own. Upload up to 40 student documents to grade. Owler AI accepts PDFs, DOCx, and text files and submits them to receive feedback. When complete, Owler AI explains the score received, suggestions for improvement, and follow-up questions that can be shared using the provided link. As always, when using AI tools, it is important to remember that they aid teachers; however, they don't replace personalized teacher feedback.

Google's Teachable Machine is an experimental AI tool that allows users to create simple machine learning models without needing coding experience. Using images, sounds, or body poses, students and teachers can train models to recognize, classify, and sort information through hands-on experimentation. The site includes tutorials and sample projects that demonstrate how AI can identify objects, recognize sounds, or respond to movement and gestures. Teachable Machine also provides classroom-ready lessons and activities for K-12 students that explore topics such as artificial intelligence, ethics, creativity, and computer science concepts. To begin, users select a project type, gather and train sample data, test the model, and then save or share their finished project via links or platform-supported export options.

Using AI generators helps save time and increase productivity; Poe saves even more time by making it easy to compare output from several AI generators in one place. Use this resource to create quizzes, rubrics, lesson plans, and more. Many of the included resources offer the option to add files and increase productivity further by attaching a worksheet and asking it to modify the content to differentiate learning or to suggest ideas for presenting the content in a different format. Be sure to ask for information as precisely as possible by including grade-level information, the subject you teach, content standards and teaching objectives, and options for differentiating instruction. Math teachers can ask chatbots to explain the content differently or ask for ideas on applying math topics to everyday life. In social studies or science, ask to generate a vocabulary list or create a story based on your lessons incorporating essential vocabulary terms. ELA teachers might use these tools to get suggestions for interventions to support struggling readers or to find additional resources to support current lessons. Use the image generators to produce images for creative writing activities, to develop descriptive writing skills, or to include in multimedia presentations. Always verify any information provided by any AI tool before using it. These tools constantly evolve, and many features regularly change (or upgrade).

Comments

AI generators like Poe are great for streamlining lesson planning and differentiation, making it easier to adapt content for diverse learners. However, it's crucial to verify AI-generated information for accuracy and alignment with educational goals. Thoughtful prompts and careful oversight ensure these tools enhance instruction rather than replace teacher expertise. Wayland, OR, Grades: 0 - 12

Enhance learning by adding a link to a poll as part of a blended or flipped learning activity. For example, when delivering a flipped learning lesson using Microsoft Forms, reviewed here, include a link to a poll that asks students to reflect upon their understanding of the content learned.

MirrorTalk uses AI to create meaningful opportunities for cognitive and emotional reflection in any classroom while also serving as an assessment tool to support continued student growth. After creating a free account, educators can set up a group by selecting a name and grade level, then choose how students will access the reflection activity. Access options include login groups (student email required), session groups (name only, no email), or open groups (no name/email, but video is required). Responses can be submitted via video or audio and are available in English or Spanish. Teachers create reflections by defining objectives and selecting focus areas such as depth of knowledge, mindset, or problem-solving. The AI generates thoughtful, personalized prompts that guide students through the reflection process. Prompts are shared through assignment links, and as students respond, the teacher dashboard updates with visual charts and AI-generated insights that help monitor student progress and provide targeted suggestions for support.

In the Classroom

MirrorTalk can be used in many ways to support student learning and reflection. Begin the school year with a prompt that encourages students to reflect on the previous school year and set goals for the new year. Create prompts as exit tickets for students to reflect on the day's lesson and as a formative assessment for you to modify upcoming lessons as needed. Use this tool as part of a retrieval practice strategy to encourage students to recall facts about new concepts learned in class. Learn more about retrieval practice by visiting this blog post, Using Retrieval Practice to Boost Student Learning, found here.
