Choose from these lessons to support your students paper and projects on the environment, pollution and recycling. Allow AP students to choose lessons they are interested in investigating. All students should take notes with an online tool like Simplenote, reviewed here, to have them share the info they learned with their peers. Tell students to be sure to save the URL to share their notes and questions with you and their peers. Simplenote allows you to access and update across all devices. While some of the world records might make students a little queasy, (see the worlds biggest bug) this site would be an excellent way to get students interested in the study of insects. Share the site on an interactive whiteboard or projector, and allow students to explore it in groups. What would be interesting is to see how many record holders were local insects. Great Backyard Bird Count - Cornell Lab of Ornithology

Take students outside for 15-20 minutes to observe and record the birds they see around the school. Back in class, students can organize their observations into a chart or graph using Infographic Presentation Templates, reviewed here and compare which species were most common. Use the site's maps and bird-count data to investigate where selected bird species are found at different times of the year. Probably the coolest part of this website is entitled "observing," which provides helpful calendars, explanations and images of solar events that are happening soon locally. Refer to this site for upcoming solar phenomena, and encourage students to go out and observe on their own. If there are events in the area, assign students to observe and create a report based on what they saw! If students are able to gather images of the event, we recommend a tool like PowerPoint Online, reviewed here.
