Enter algebra problems and receive the solutions! Also included are many sample problems. Choose sample problems using the options on the right of the screen, from categories such as algebra concepts and expressions, simplifying or factoring polynomials, vectors, and much more. After creating a problem, select "solve" to find an answer. One major downfall of the site is that the option to see the steps needed to answer the problem leads to a pay site. However, the site is still worthwhile for students to check problem solutions.

tag(s): factoring (29), homework (26), polynomials (23), vectors (15)

In the Classroom

Share the site with students as a resource for checking homework. Provide this link on your class website. At the beginning of a unit, display the site on your interactive whiteboard or projector showing the solution to a new problem, and then allow students to investigate and discover how to find the answer. When they complain that the site does not explain how it "got" the answer, you have the perfect teaching moment to point out why you require students to "show their work" to remove such mystery.

This resource may not be one of the six resources available at this time. When it is featured it is an online interactive 100 chart that is more than just a static chart. You can click and drag counters onto the chart to display patterns, multiples, odd and even numbers, and much more. Color code patterns with counters to use in demonstrating math concepts.

Have students add up sums of counters placed onto the 100 chart. Use this site to teach younger students HOW to count to 100 and the value/idea of 100. Demonstrate multiples of factors when teaching multiplication facts. Use on the interactive whiteboard or projector when teaching number sense to highlight odd and even numbers. Highlight prime numbers when learning prime and composite. Make this an interactive whiteboard center for students to practice or challenge each other with multiples questions. Visual and tactile learners can get "in touch" with numbers!

WiseMapping is a free online mind-mapping and graphic-organizer tool that allows users to create visual diagrams to organize ideas, plan projects, study concepts, and solve problems. Users can build concept maps, brainstorming webs, flowcharts, and task organizers using an easy drag-and-drop interface. Maps can include notes, links, images, and attached documents, making them useful for classroom instruction, collaborative planning, research projects, and personal organization. Finished maps can be shared by URL or embedded into websites and learning management systems, allowing students and teachers to collaborate and present ideas visually across a variety of subjects and grade levels.

tag(s): artificial intelligence (303), concept mapping (18), graphic organizers (57), mind map (33)

In the Classroom

Users must be able to navigate the icons for editing and creating a mindmap. Icons and commands are the same as in any office and free applications that most people use. View the free demo for an introduction of using Wisemapping. Use the demo editor to play with the tools and learn what they do. Note: the demo function does not allow you to save your creation as it is a sandbox area for learning. Allow students an opportunity to learn to play first without teacher direction as each person will find different ways to use wisemapping for their best benefit. Click on a set of words to edit the words, color, font, etc. in the bubble. Drag items easily around the screen by clicking and dragging the icon to drop into a new configuration. Add "icons" and flags anywhere on your mindmap. Add a "note" to a bubble anywhere. The note appears like a little sticky note on the bubble and expands when clicked on. Add a "link" to any of the text on the wisemap that leads to any link on the web you specify. Export as a scalable vector graphic (svg), PDF document, or image file. "Share" to work collaboratively with others. Users must have a login in order to share and publish. Click on the "history" of a wisemap to view the contributions of others.

Assign sections of current curriculum topic to groups of students to map out and explain in detail. Link to outside web pages and pictures and create notes with additional study hints and information. Assign a different group to review information for accuracy and add additional information and explanations. Using this process, a wisemap of a chapter or unit can be created easily and efficiently while benefiting all learners.

There are countless possibilities at this mental mapping site. Demonstrate the activity on an interactive whiteboard or projector, and then allow students to try to create their own graphic organizers. Use this site for literature activities, research projects, social studies, or science topics of study. Use this site to create family trees. Have students collaborate together (online) to create group mind maps or review charts before tests on a given topic. Have students organize any concepts you study; color-code concepts to show what they understand, wonder, question; map out a story, plotline, or LIFETIME; map out a step-by-step process (life cycle); map a real historical event as a choose-your-own-adventure with alternate endings based on pivotal points; plan a "tour" for a "thought museum." Use this mapping website as an alternative to a traditional test, quiz, or homework assignment in literature or social studies: have students demonstrate their understanding by completing a graphic organizer about the main points. Be sure that they RENAME it before they start work to an individual name so you know who did it (they could EMAIL it to you!) or have them print their results to turn in.

This site offers many opportunities for math exploration for both teachers and students. Although they have a store and ads on the site, much of the site is free and worth a visit. One especially helpful portion of the site is the link to different types of calculators from basic to graphing to mortgage and loan calculators. Students and parents will find the homework section of the site helpful as it is categorized by different topics, then each topic is further divided into sections. For example, under fractions you will find definitions, reducing, adding and subtracting, multiplying and dividing. In each of those portions there is a section with a first glance (overview), in-depth, examples, and workout. There is also a unit quiz for each section. Another helpful area of the site is the practice section which offers practice in many different math skills such as square root, percent, and integers. The games section offers practice with critical thinking skills through logic puzzles and games such as chess.

Zoho Show is an online presentation and document creator tool. This program is somewhat simpler than PowerPoint, but runs on a similar format. Use this tool as you would PowerPoint with your students. It is very advantageous if you have assigned a project and students do not have access to PowerPoint at home. This can be accessed anywhere with no cost to the student, the parent, or you. Sharing and collaborating is also simple. Upload, edit, and save your documents easily.

tag(s): multimedia (62), slides (37)

To use this site, you will need to create an account. You will need to navigate using onscreen instructions. There is a video tour of the features if you would like to view it, but it is just as fun and easy to play with the tool. Slide themes are limited, but the tools are simple and it is easy to publish to a URL that can be shared with everyone.

Use this tool to create presentations when students will need more than class time to finish. Have students make individual presentations. Instead of presenting on projector, have them share to the class wiki or within their zoho group to promote discussion and peer review. Assign a round-robin peer review so everyone gets some feedback.

This site provides practice in math facts with a twist - create your own goal for speed in completing facts. Upon achieving your goal, a printable certificate is available. Practice is provided in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. There is also a choice of choosing only certain digits to work with. Specific directions are provided on the site (there are three steps of "choosing" before you hit START.)

In the Classroom

Individualize the game for students to practice skills needed. For example, if a student is having trouble with multiples of 7 choose to practice those facts only while decreasing the time allowed for completion. Create a link on your classroom computers to use as a center for fact practice. Provide this link on your classroom website or blog for use at home.

In the Classroom

Show galleries on your interactive whiteboard or projector and discuss mathematical properties used within images. Allow students to explore the site then create their own mathematical art along with a short journal about their creation. Be sure to take a picture of their art. Then, have students create a multimedia presentation using Thinklink, reviewed here. This site allows users to narrate a picture.

This site offers a visual perspective of what one trillion dollars looks like. It begins with a $100 bill, moves on to $10,000 and on up to the trillion dollars. One interesting portion of the site is a link at the bottom of the page that includes the step by step calculations and dimensions used for calculations. There is also a link (at the bottom) to "see" the U.S. National Debt.

In the Classroom

This site is perfect for demonstrating place value and exponents of 10 on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Ask students to draw each amount as they would visualize it before revealing the actual size from the site. Challenge students to change the representation used ($100 bill) to something different (popsicle sticks, bricks, etc.) to find how proportion changes.
