This site provides a variety of activities for exploring knots made from pieces of rope. Students can make and verify observations about knots, classify them, combine them, and find ways to determine if two knots are alike. The activities outlined here can be combined to form a single lesson about mathematical knots, or a larger investigative unit that extends over a longer period of time. The sequence in which the activities are listed is roughly in order of increasing difficulty and challenge. The site contains a vocabulary section, an activities section, and an evaluation section.

Take advantage of the free registration to register your class to follow student progress and challenge students to increase scores. Ask students to replace paper and pen and write blog entries sharing their learning and understanding for each game using Telegra.ph, reviewed here. This blog creator requires no registration. If you are teaching younger students and looking for an easy way to integrate technology and check for understanding, challenge your students to create a blog using edublogs, reviewed here. Take this a step further, redefining learning and challenge students to pick the game they learned the most from and make a feature video about it using Adobe Express Video Maker, reviewed here. The IceCube Neutrino Observatory is an engaging science resource from the University of Wisconsin-Madison that introduces students to one of the world's most unique astronomy experiments. Located deep beneath the Antarctic ice at the South Pole, IceCube detects tiny particles called neutrinos, helping scientists study distant stars, black holes, supernovas, and other cosmic events. The site features news articles, videos, photographs, interactive explanations, and educational materials that help students explore particle physics, astronomy, Earth science, and scientific research. Teachers can use the website to introduce scientific inquiry, careers in STEM, Antarctic exploration, and the ways scientists use technology to investigate the mysteries of the universe.

After learning about the IceCube Observatory, have students work in teams to design and sketch their own particle detector. Students should explain how their detector would collect data and what scientific questions it could help answer. Students can investigate the location of IceCube in Antarctica and create a map using Google My Maps, reviewed hereshowing the observatory, the South Pole, and other Antarctic research stations. They can add facts about climate, geography, and scientific research conducted there. Older students can examine IceCube data visualizations and graphs from the website. Introduce this site with a projector or on an interactive whiteboard to show students how to navigate. Suggestion - start with "Experiments in Plant Hybridization." The English Hypertext is a glossary. Then, in your flipped or blended classroom (or at a computer center), have students explore assigned sections of Experiments in Plant Hybridization on their own. Ask students to create their own concept maps sharing their learning and understanding using MindMup, reviewed here. Take this a step further and allow pairs or small groups of students share what they learned with their peers using an interactive infographic like Canva, reviewed here. Students can keep their work for future reference in a digital portfolio such as DIY, reviewed here. If you are looking for ideas, try the Color palettes. Browse through the color palettes or explore by typing a theme, color, or keyword to find suggested palettes. In the Classroom
Allow students to create collaborative drawings as responses to literature. They can map out the plot or themes, add labels, create character studies, and more. Share the finished products on an interactive whiteboard, projector, or your class website. Have a group of students create a drawing that another group can use as a writing prompt. Use Web Whiteboard as a brainstorming or sketching space for groups or the class to share ideas for a significant project or to solve a real-world problem. Use this site with students in a computer lab (or on laptops) to create a drawing of the story's setting as it is read aloud. As a creative assessment idea, have students draw out a simple cartoon with stick figures to explain a more complex process, such as how a democracy works. If you are lucky enough to teach in a BYOD setting, use Web Whiteboard to demonstrate and illustrate any concept while students use the chat and drawing tools to interact in real time. If you are studying weather, have students diagram the layers of the atmosphere and the processes that occur during a thunderstorm. Introduce this tool to students who are working on group projects. Alternatively, have students use this to work with partners or in small teams to complete complex math problems or equations. Give students a problem by typing it on their board. YiNote is a Chrome browser extension allowing users to take notes while watching online videos. After installing the extension, click the icon in your browser bar while viewing any video to bring up a box for adding notes. YiNote adds a time stamp to match the place in the video of saved notes. Return at anytime and click on your notes to go directly to that point in the video. One-click sharing allows the option to share notes via a direct URL or through links to social networking sites.

After installing the YiNote extension, add notes to any online video then share with students for viewing as part of your flipped classroom lessons. Use with videos that may be too long otherwise; have students go directly to relevant portions of videos and view with your guidance supplied in the note portion. Make it easy for peers to find all of your screen recordings by uploading them to Padlet, reviewed here. Of course, by sharing them to Padlet you also introduce a new tech tool for them to try! Instead of a one-time professional development session, consider creating an ongoing podcast using Buzzsprout, reviewed here to share new technology tools, provide advice and tips, and answer common questions. The ISTE YouTube channel provides a great starting point for learning and sharing tech tips with peers.

This site offers self-paced tutorials and other help with learning statistics. Tutorials included are AP Statistics, Statistics and Probability, and Matrix Algebra. Tutorials include lessons available through the table of contents listed at the left side of each page. It is suggested that you follow the lessons in order. At the end of each lesson is a short review question including the answer and an explanation. Information is also available on the site for the AP statistics exam and includes a Practice Exam, Study Guide Review, and list of approved calculators. Statistics tables and tools are also available on the site. Everything on the site is free for public use with the exception of the Sample Planning Wizard which is a pay option.
