Have students play several rounds independently, then record three problems from the game and explain the subtraction or counting-up strategy they used to find each amount of change. Assign students to compare two strategies for making change, such as subtracting the cost from the amount paid and counting up from the cost, then collect their explanations in a Google Forms exit ticket, reviewed here.
