Captivate and challenge students while maintaining quiet times in your classroom with Bouncy Balls! Turn on the microphone to capture sound; the quieter your environment is, the more settled the balls remain. If there is more noise, the balls start flying and jumping around the screen. In addition to bouncy balls, choose from bubbles, eyeballs, and smiley face icons. There is also a full screen option. Our editors had some trouble trying to figure out HOW to enable the microphones. Here are some tips that we learned. If you are using Firefox or Chrome, you must allow pop-ups. You should get a message in the narrow band below the address bar asking you to "Allow Microphone" for this site. At the time of this review, this site was not working properly on the Safari browser. Even so, this is still one site you will want to explore and "have a ball." Unfortunately, this site does not work on mobile devices.

Use Bouncy Balls during silent reading time, on reentering the classroom after lunch, recess or special classes or anytime you are trying to maintain quiet. Graph the length of time balls lay still; then challenge your class to improve their time each day or reach a set goal. Use with preK students during nap/quiet time as a visual reminder for quiet. This resource introduces quick, fun games that help students build what the site calls "Stop and Think Power," which means learning to control impulses and pause before acting. The games are designed for Pre-K through middle school and take 15 minutes or less, making them easy to use during morning meetings, transitions, or SEL blocks. Through activities like Simon Says, Freeze Feelings, and Wait for It, students practice self-control, impulse management, careful listening, and thoughtful decision-making. The goal is to strengthen executive function skills, including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The site also provides tips for introducing the concept, adapting activities for various ages, and guiding reflection, making it a practical SEL tool for any classroom.

Play a short version of the "Freeze Feelings" where students freeze like a statue when the music stops, then have them name the feeling they imagine their statue is showing. Play a version of Simon Says with a twist. Before starting, tell students they must silently say "pause, think, act" in their heads before each movement. After a brain game, have students draw a quick brain snapshot using Google Drawings, reviewed here showing what helped them stop and think. Brain Raider is a digital notebook designed to create and share interactive student activities. With Brain Raider, you can easily create (and grade) text entry, multiple choice, drag and drop, and drawing inputs. Teachers can monitor student work in real time to track progress and intervene as needed. Add other teachers as editors or viewers to work on the same shared notebook. After creating an account, follow the steps to create a notebook by entering a name, then add sections and a new page. Drag the header onto your new page and double-click to access elements from the menu bar, such as text, drawing, drag and drop, and more. Share completed notebooks from the settings and sharing tab, and click the small icon on the right side of the name of your notebook. Students can access a notebook via the QR code or URL. Free accounts include unlimited notebooks, students, and sections, as well as full grade-book access and the quick grading tool. Other free features offer limited image generation and the ability to input all content types supported by Brain Raider.

Exercise your gray matter by solving one of the 12,000 'braingles' at this site. It purports to be the largest collection of puzzles, riddles, mind games, etc, on the Internet. Once you explore the site, you trust their word. The site is mobile phone and wii-friendly. Don't miss the section with SAT vocab (in Mentalrobics). There are articles on study skills and strategies such as clearing your mind before studying, "chunking" when reading, or various strategies to memorize material. Engage students into math and reading exercises through the endless riddles and puzzles at this site. They won't even be aware they are 'reading' or 'solving math.'

The site's point system encourages you to return and participate within the network. Use the "Ask a question" box to post any homework question. Choose a subject and type the question. View questions others ask by browsing the latest questions or within subject categories. View questions and responses without creating an account. However, an account is required to post questions. Registration requires an email address or Facebook account. Although Brainly states that it is a homework help site for all ages, registration requires that users be 13 years or older.

Share Brainly as an online homework help resource with your students. If you aren't comfortable with students receiving too much homework help, ask students to let you know when this resource has been used and have them provide feedback on what they learned. This is also an excellent opportunity to discuss the reliability of your information source and recheck to ensure the answer is correct. If they see the responses as "hints" more than trustworthy answers, they will learn well. Often, students learn best from each other. Encourage your students to provide answers for other students through Brainly. Offer bonus points for debunking any Incorrect answers they find at Brainly and submitting them to you! In the Classroom
This site contains some ads that may be distracting; however, a quick lesson on avoiding them and engaging with only the desired content is all that is needed to keep most students from following advertising links. Add a link to the Break Your Own News Generator to your lists of other tools to use with images for many different purposes. One excellent tool for organizing and sharing resources with students is Padlet, reviewed here. Create columns in Padlet to organize different resources and then add links to make it easy for you and your students to find what they need. For example, engage students at the beginning of a new lesson or unit by creating a breaking news image to introduce the content. One example might be for a science lesson featuring simple machines with a headline sharing a runaway object that leads into your study of inclined planes. Extend learning and ask students to become creators and share breaking headlines to discuss new information they learned, share important information about story characters, or create a made-up headline about historical events. In the Classroom
Assess students prior knowledge by creating a Breaking News piece to introduce a new unit. Replace paper and pencil and ask students to fill in an interactive KWL chart from Holt, reviewed here, or discuss in small groups what they know about the topic. Transform student learning by using their "Breaking News" in presentation slides by downloading the image from your computer. Then upload the image to a slide presentation creator such as Slides, reviewed here. Suggest to students that they do the same for their presentations. Use as a timeline of events for lab experiment, a novel study, historical event, and more. A bridge map organizes paired ideas around a shared "relating factor," making it useful for analogies, mathematical relationships, scientific concepts, vocabulary, and historical connections. Users can begin with a template, replace the sample text, add or reposition shapes and connectors, format the diagram, and collaborate with others in real time. Users can share finished diagrams through a URL or export them as PNG, JPG, GIF, SVG, or PDF files. The free edition is intended for personal and noncommercial use and does not limit the number of drawings, although premium design content may display a watermark in free accounts.

Here's a well organized PDF reading guide by Glencoe. The lessons are grouped in four chapter reading segments, each group of chapters is divided into three parts: Before You Read, Active Reading, and Responding. The guides are well thought out and will prompt students to write, create cluster diagrams, and complete comparison charts for the story's characters, plot, and climax. After completing the novel, students are asked to read five extension assignments in various other forms of literature and relate them to the book's central themes. Teachers will be able to use this guide as a 'turn key' approach to teaching this thoughtful novel.
