Next enhance student learning by having them take notes about Hurricane Ian - September 2022, reviewed here. Extend student learning by having them make a Padlet, reviewed here, with columns to make comparisons between the two hurricanes. Then ask them to use Padlet to create a video to explain to other students what was most significant about both hurricanes. Ask them to respond to other student's videos. Looking at the map of the all the human chromosomes (GeneMap99) is an interesting way to introduce genetics and tie research into genetic studies in the classroom. Students can investigate the traits of students in the classroom and determine the different variations. Provide a link to this site to determine the chromosome and location on the chromosome for the trait. Find data about the frequency of the different variations in different populations around the world. Use the trait to complete genetic crosses. Do research and create an informational brochure, blog post, website page, or presentation on the findings. If you are beginning the process of integrating technology, have students create blogs sharing their learning and understanding using Telegra.ph, reviewed here. Because there are a LOT of short recordings on this site, be sure to examine it thoroughly before allowing students to use it. Find one or several informative recordings that could benefit your classroom, and use them as introductory pieces before beginning a unit or lesson. Play the recording using the interactive whiteboard as a starter, previewing the lesson to come, allowing students to reflect on the recording via writing or verbally in a class discussion. Enhance student learning and replace paper pen by asking students to write blogs sharing information learned using a site like Edublog, reviewed here. Edublog offers tools for creating class and individual blogs.
