Gigafact's fact briefs offer rich opportunities for classroom engagement and digital citizenship development. Students can analyze the structured format of the fact briefs, including the question-and-answer breakdown and linked social media posts, to understand how information is presented and verified. Topics include Democracy and Elections, Economy, Justice, Education, Immigration, and more. These briefs can serve as case studies in media literacy lessons, prompting discussions on critical thinking, source evaluation, and responsible sharing online. Classroom debates and collaborative discussions based on fact briefs encourage students to engage in respectful discourse while honing their fact-checking skills. By integrating Gigafact's resources, educators can empower students to become informed digital citizens who critically evaluate information, engage in civil online conversations, and promote responsible sharing practices.

Google's Teachable Machine is an experimental AI tool that allows users to create simple machine learning models without needing coding experience. Using images, sounds, or body poses, students and teachers can train models to recognize, classify, and sort information through hands-on experimentation. The site includes tutorials and sample projects that demonstrate how AI can identify objects, recognize sounds, or respond to movement and gestures. Teachable Machine also provides classroom-ready lessons and activities for K-12 students that explore topics such as artificial intelligence, ethics, creativity, and computer science concepts. To begin, users select a project type, gather and train sample data, test the model, and then save or share their finished project via links or platform-supported export options.

Share Teachable Machines with students who enjoy working with computers and ask them to develop models for different learning activities. For example, ask students to use the image model to create examples of categories of animals for young students and provide them with a picture bank of animals. Use the picture bank to see if animals are categorized correctly as a learning activity. For older students, use this site to build learning games. Udio uses AI to create original music with vocals and instrumentation from text prompts. After creating a free account, users can enter prompts describing the song's topic, genre, mood, style, lyrics, or length. An optional AI prompt-enhancement feature can help generate more detailed and creative results. Once songs are generated, users can remix, extend, edit, and refine their music before downloading or sharing it by URL. Udio also provides options to export audio and create simple music videos. The free plan currently includes a limited number of daily and monthly credits for song generation, while paid plans unlock additional features and higher usage limits.

Use this song generator to engage students in any subject. For example, ask Udio to create lyrics and music to coincide with upcoming holidays and classroom events. Try asking Udio to make an upbeat song about your field trip to the zoo or a jazz song that includes information about New Orleans, and play the song for students as a schema activator for your lesson. Create songs with specific vocabulary terms for students to use as a learning aid or produce songs that assist multilingual learners in learning English. App smash Udio with MagicSchool's Song Generator, reviewed here by asking MagicSchool to create a song using any topic and details, then copy the lyrics into Udio to turn the lyrics into any genre desired. Ask students to use Udio to make a song that accompanies a research project or multimedia presentation, then include the song with other presentation elements built into a simple website created with edublogs, reviewed here or another free website builder like Straw Page, reviewed here.

Choosing the best AI chatbot can be daunting. Poe helps out by making chat and generating content accessible using various AI-powered tools. Use Poe to interact with popular chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude, and others in one location. In addition, you can easily interact with custom chatbots or create your custom chatbot with a simple prompt. Create your free account to begin, then use the settings to set a default bot. Free plans offer 3000 points daily, sufficient for participating in several conversations, creating images, and more.

tag(s): artificial intelligence (273), chat (40), DAT device agnostic tool (127)

In the Classroom

Using AI generators helps save time and increase productivity; Poe saves even more time by making it easy to compare output from several AI generators in one place. Use this resource to create quizzes, rubrics, lesson plans, and more. Many of the included resources offer the option to add files and increase productivity further by attaching a worksheet and asking it to modify the content to differentiate learning or to suggest ideas for presenting the content in a different format. Be sure to ask for information as precisely as possible by including grade-level information, the subject you teach, content standards and teaching objectives, and options for differentiating instruction. Math teachers can ask chatbots to explain the content differently or ask for ideas on applying math topics to everyday life. In social studies or science, ask to generate a vocabulary list or create a story based on your lessons incorporating essential vocabulary terms. ELA teachers might use these tools to get suggestions for interventions to support struggling readers or to find additional resources to support current lessons. Use the image generators to produce images for creative writing activities, to develop descriptive writing skills, or to include in multimedia presentations. Always verify any information provided by any AI tool before using it. These tools constantly evolve, and many features regularly change (or upgrade).

Comments

AI generators like Poe are great for streamlining lesson planning and differentiation, making it easier to adapt content for diverse learners. However, it's crucial to verify AI-generated information for accuracy and alignment with educational goals. Thoughtful prompts and careful oversight ensure these tools enhance instruction rather than replace teacher expertise. Wayland, OR, Grades: 0 - 12

MirrorTalk uses AI to create meaningful opportunities for cognitive and emotional reflection in any classroom while also serving as an assessment tool to support continued student growth. After creating a free account, educators can set up a group by selecting a name and grade level, then choose how students will access the reflection activity. Access options include login groups (student email required), session groups (name only, no email), or open groups (no name/email, but video is required). Responses can be submitted via video or audio and are available in English or Spanish. Teachers create reflections by defining objectives and selecting focus areas such as depth of knowledge, mindset, or problem-solving. The AI generates thoughtful, personalized prompts that guide students through the reflection process. Prompts are shared through assignment links, and as students respond, the teacher dashboard updates with visual charts and AI-generated insights that help monitor student progress and provide targeted suggestions for support.

In the Classroom

MirrorTalk can be used in many ways to support student learning and reflection. Begin the school year with a prompt that encourages students to reflect on the previous school year and set goals for the new year. Create prompts as exit tickets for students to reflect on the day's lesson and as a formative assessment for you to modify upcoming lessons as needed. Use this tool as part of a retrieval practice strategy to encourage students to recall facts about new concepts learned in class. Learn more about retrieval practice by visiting this blog post, Using Retrieval Practice to Boost Student Learning, found here.
