ReadWriteThink presents this lesson to explore the role of superstitions in modern-day life. Historically, March 15 (the Ides of March) has been associated with doom and disaster. Even if you are not teaching Julius Ceasar's Rome or Shakespeare's play by the same name, you can engage your students by studying superstitions.
In the Classroom
Introduce this lesson with a brief discussion about what a superstition is and what are some superstitions your students know about. Create a Padlet, reviewed here with columns for categories of superstitions, for example, good and bad luck, walking under a ladder, opening an umbrella indoors, etc. After the discussions, follow the Classroom Activities and explore the Websites area, having students rotate through stations to explore the subject. As a culminating activity, ask students to create a video using Vmaker, reviewed here to share their impressions about superstitions (leave this wide open, whether they believe in them, have they discussed superstitions with anyone outside of class, and so on). Then, ask students to comment on at least two of their classmate's videos using Now Comment, reviewed here. There is a free curriculum toolkit to encourage inquiry, listening, and self-expression. Sign in with your email to find an introductory letter and an On-Boarding document that thoroughly explains the 3Cs Classroom program. Each "C" has three lessons. Each lesson has a lesson plan, slides, and a handout. There are additional resources for each of the Cs, too. Elementary teachers, look at this exceptional program to see how you can incorporate parts of it for your students.

The Cs curriculum is an excellent approach to your subject matter all year. Start with this program and expand on what students have learned through all your units. You don't have to include all 3Cs with every unit. Have students work in pairs or small groups to create a podcast using Pinecast, reviewed here about something they want to know more about in your curriculum. Creating a podcast about something they want to know more about fosters inquiry. Working in small groups encourages communication, and through both, students should begin to feel courage about their research skills and interacting with others.

It allows members to transform photos using any of the included filters, combine images using AI, easily remove objects, and more. Begin by creating an account using your email or logging in with a Google account. Edit images by uploading a photo from your device and choosing from the many editing tools and filters provided. Select "Create a new project" to create images from text, insert objects, and alter images using the provided tools. When finished, images are available in your history and can be downloaded. The free plan offers 30 credits/day (reset daily), 3 auto prompts per day, and 5 text-to-image and image-to-image features per day.

Gravity offers a video response tool to promote asynchronous classroom discussions. Use Gravity to record video or audio prompts or create screen recordings to share. Register for an account using your email, then make a community to use as a home for video prompts. Prompts are then created in community folders and shared using a join code. Students join the discussion using the join code and create an account using their email. Free accounts for educators offer unlimited participants and one minute of video recording time.

In the Classroom
Use Gravity to create collaborative discussions on virtually any classroom topic. Challenge students to reflect on their learning at the end of a unit, research project, or literature circle. Here are just a few example questions to ask: What are some things you did well on this assignment? What mistakes did you make on your last assignment that you did not make on today's assignment? What would you do differently? What would you like to learn more about? Create a community folder for student questions; for example, ask students to create a screen-share video to demonstrate questions they have when solving math problems. Since the free version allows for only a one-minute prompt time and a one-minute reply per student, this is a good tool to teach students to be concise when responding, sharing only the important points.Edge Features:
