PBS site connected to their series on the Spanish Conquistadors Pizarro, Cortes, Orellana and Cabeza de Vaca. By clicking on a Conuqistadors' name you'll find multi-media presentations, an interactive timeline, a teaching guide, lesson plans, and PDF worksheets covering each of the American cultures. This site provides good historical background on the conquistadors and would be a great supplement to a unit on early American exploration. While the site certainly suggests that we consider the ethical implications of conquest, it is not heavy handed. Though some of the links have been retired on this site, many are not. There is still enough information to make this site worth a visit for you and your students.

The information would be great for use for student research. Ask students to choose a Conquistador they would like to learn more about. Then, divide the class into small groups with like interests. Have each group research their Conquistador and create a multimedia presentation using Genially, reviewed here to present their findings to the class. Gamma uses AI to build and share presentations, documents, and websites in seconds. You can begin by creating a new Gamma using AI or starting with a blank page. The AI option then asks to start from copied text, a short prompt, or import a new file or web link. Follow Gamma's prompts to adjust themes and the appearance of your project. All projects are fully editable, making customizing content to fit your needs easy. When complete, publish your project. Share using the provided options, such as a published URL, export to a PDF or PowerPoint, or use the embed code to insert your presentation into a website. Free accounts include 400 AI credits and Gamma's basic image models, enough to create several presentations.

In the Classroom

Use Gamma to create engaging presentations to introduce and review content quickly. For example, ask Gamma to create a presentation introducing a new novel to students, including background information and vocabulary. Instead of creating a presentation, use Gamma to create an interactive website as a flipped learning activity and include links to online resources and assessments created with Microsoft Forms, reviewed here or embedded quizzes made with Blooket, reviewed here.

Teachable Machine is a Google AI experimental project that allows you to create learning machine models without coding knowledge. Use images, sounds, and poses to build models that classify and sort information. Explore the tutorials to learn how to create a learning machine and view examples of use, such as making a model to determine the ripeness of a banana, detect different sounds you create, and recognize the tilt of a head. Also included are lessons for K-12 classrooms that use Teaching Machines as part of lessons in AI and ethics and Dancing with AI. Start your project by choosing the type of project to create, then follow the steps to add samples to use in training your model. Complete and save your project, then share it with a link or other options available through Teachable Machine.

In the Classroom

Share Teachable Machines with students who enjoy working with computers and ask them to develop models for different learning activities. For example, ask students to use the image model to create examples of categories of animals for young students and provide them with a picture bank of animals. Use the picture bank to see if animals are categorized correctly as a learning activity. For older students, use this site to build learning games. Find more ideas at Github's Awesome Teachable Machine List, found here.

Udio uses AI to create music with vocals and instrumentation from your prompts. Create an account, then add your prompt with topic, genre, and length information. An optional feature allows you to use AI to enhance your prompt for a more creative result. When complete, remix until satisfied with the result, then use the provided options to download, share by URL, copy the embed code, or generate a video. The free version offers a ten-credit limit daily with an additional ten credits monthly.

In the Classroom

Use this song generator to engage students in any subject. For example, ask Udio to create lyrics and music to coincide with upcoming holidays and classroom events. Try asking Udio to make an upbeat song about your field trip to the zoo or a jazz song that includes information about New Orleans, and play the song for students as a schema activator for your lesson. Create songs with specific vocabulary terms for students to use as a learning aid or produce songs that assist multilingual learners in learning English. App smash Udio with MagicSchool's Song Generator, reviewed here by asking MagicSchool to create a song using any topic and details, then copy the lyrics into Udio to turn the lyrics into any genre desired. Ask students to use Udio to make a song that accompanies a research project or multimedia presentation, then include the song with other presentation elements built into a simple website created with edublogs, reviewed here or another free website builder like Straw Page, reviewed here.
