It is available on the web and all mobile devices. Hear messages live, or listen later. Extend classroom technology use by using Voxer with early readers in your Daily 5 literacy structure for oral reading and listening to others read. Archive students' reading fluency at the beginning of the year, making comparisons throughout the year. Send the Voxer sample readings to parents via email so they can hear the progress and your comments, too. Use Voxer with any language learning students, both ENL/ESL and world languages. Students can practice speaking and listening in their new language. Connect with another class in a country speaking the language your students are learning for rich, real-world discussions. Create small groups to discuss anything from current events, to how to complete a math problem, to contributions for group research projects. Middle and high school teachers can use Voxer for communication between classes posting a question about the reading they are doing, an equation in math, or a lab in science. Collaborate with another classroom across the state or in another country allowing students to discuss with other students not in their school. The site offers three main features: an interactive map, a text identification tool, and a language familiarization game. Click on a map location to view a pop-up box with the name or names of languages spoken and location by longitude and latitude. Click on the name of the language to find basic data (underneath the map) about the language and its speakers. Underneath the map, find icons to learn more about the language, choose the music-note to listen to MP3 recordings of the language. The page icon leads to other Internet resources for learning about the language chosen. Use an interactive whiteboard or projector to share timelines about historical events and more. Have students create timelines for research projects. Create author biographies, animal life cycles, or timelines of events and causes of wars. Challenge students to create a timeline of the plot of a novel. If you teach chemistry, have students create illustrated sequences explaining oxidation or reduction (or both). Have elementary students interview grandparents and create a class timeline about their grandparents for Grandparents' Day. In world language classes, have students create a timeline of their family in the language to master using vocabulary about relatives, jobs, and more (and verb tenses!). Students learn about photo selection, detail writing, chronological order, and more while creating the timelines of their choice. Making a timeline is also a good way to review the history of a current event or cultural developments.Edge Features:

Sign up for a free account, enter the information, and you are ready to play! Use the "create game" button and enter your title. Then, start building your game. Enter your email address so you can edit the game later. Enter your series of questions and answers under difficulty levels. It's that easy. Up to four teams or individuals can play at one time. This site would fit well in a world cultures/social studies class or even as part of an information literacy lesson. Math teachers can use it to show the usefulness of statistics. World language teachers may want to include it as part of cultural study. Share this site briefly on an interactive whiteboard or projector to spark discussion about what statistics can tell you about a country. Then turn groups loose to predict the outcomes of the "competition" in various categories. Have them keep a record: What do they predict? Why? Were they right? What might be the possible reasons for the "winner" (or loser) in the category they chose? What other statistical competitions would they like to see to gain the best profile of a country? As a class, try to name the top ten most revealing statistics they would like to see that are not already listed here. Then have them look for sources where they might find that information! Extend the findings by having student groups create infographics about their chosen "world cup" topic. Use a tool such as Venngage reviewed here. In a government class, use this site to open discussion about the role of statistics in governing and meeting the needs of your citizens. This site is ready to use in class. Have cooperative learning groups debate the discussion questions. Better yet, turn the discussion questions into a class wiki, allowing students to input their thoughts on the wiki. Have students write a journal entry (as a blog) highlighting one of the discussion questions or from the perspective of someone living during the 1800s. If you are beginning the process of integrating technology, have students replace pen and paper and create blogs sharing their learning and understanding using Penzu, reviewed here. If you are teaching younger students and looking for an easy way to integrate technology and check for understanding, challenge your students to create a blog using Edublog, reviewed here. Share maps of Mexico on your interactive whiteboard or projector. The Extension Activity calls for students to create and label a map. ScribbleMaps, reviewed here, would be the perfect tool for redefining student learning since you can have images, text, and video in the annotation. Have cooperative learning groups create commercials enhancing and highlighting what they have learned (be sure they include some new vocabulary words) or transform learning by having students create a video advertisement for your class's Cinco de Mayo celebration. View the video to see soldiers transported on camels and warfare in the Alps. Choose from language options of English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic or Hindi. View interactives by clicking the pointing finger within the video. This site is a must-see for inclusion with any World War I lessons and units. Some may find some of the images disturbing. As always, it is best to preview!

Choose different segments from the bottom of the screen to break up into smaller sections. This site is excellent for enrichment. Listeners can use any device to hear the short podcast and can also download it. In each podcast about events in a normal life, you can hear the short Mp3 twice, once at a slow speed and once at normal speed. The vocabulary in the podcasts comes from a 7500 core vocabulary word list and core words used are listed with each podcast. The podcast also lists phrasal verbs and collocations (a combination of two or more words that are commonly used together) for the benefit of listeners. More difficult words are listed and defined. There is an iOS app for English Teacher Melanie and any device with a modern web browser and an Internet connection cab use this tool.

In the Classroom
Assign the weekly podcast as listening homework. Have students create a series of questions to ask each other about it using a tool such as Testmoz reviewed here. Have them do their own podcasts, with video, modeled after the one they listened to. Explore more than 126,000 images from the Wellcome Collection related to medicine, health, science, society, and human history. The collection includes photographs, paintings, drawings, posters, advertisements, engravings, cartoons, and other historical materials. Search by keyword or narrow the results by date, subject, contributor, color, image type, or usage license. Topics include anatomy, hospitals, diseases, vaccines, surgery, pharmaceuticals, botany, public health, and the history of medicine. Many images are in the public domain or available under Creative Commons licenses, while others remain protected by copyright, so users should check the license information provided with each item before downloading or sharing it.

In the Classroom
History, science, and art teachers can explore the galleries dedicated to those subjects to include pictures in newsletters, blogs, and class websites. Share the site with students on an interactive whiteboard or projector when they need images for projects. Find images from locations you are studying in world cultures or geography class. Find images to use in student online projects such as Bookemon (to create online books), or Phrase.it, reviewed here (an image editor to add speech bubbles to your image). Art teachers can find images for students to use as references or in photomontages (with credit). Use images for writing prompts or even to create descriptive sentences. Have one student describe the image as the other sketches the image. Now compare the described image to the real image. Homeroom is an online tool and mobile app that allows you to share your class photos privately with parents, students, and others. Create an album and invite people to view it. Each time you update it, the members will be notified. When you populate your album with photos, you can also add a comment. Access Homeroom and upload photos on any device. For Initial registration, you can use the app (iOS or Android), register using your Google or Facebook account, or manually using email. Once registered, you can access the tool using any device using your username and password. Invite others from any device or computer by phone number or email address. They will become members and will be able to update their photo albums. You will be alerted about the new content. Albums are private. Only the people with the invite have access to the photos.

In the Classroom
Invite parents and students to create albums of specific events, such as field trips, service projects, hands-on activities, field experiences, class speakers, and more. Anywhere photos can be used to showcase achievement, this service would be a great resource. Use for any project, class explanation of concepts, experiments, or demonstrations. Resource teachers, speech teachers, or world language teachers can collect images into "albums" for students to practice/develop speech and vocabulary. In science class, when having students collect insects, instead of having them collect the actual specimens, have them take pictures using their phones or digital cameras. Have the students upload the pictures and statistics of the specimen to the album at home, and then they can create a multimedia project using these materials. Students can snap a picture anywhere, with any device, and upload it to the web to use in class or cooperative groups. This tool would be great for clubs and performance groups as well! Do you send a newsletter home to parents? Try creating a heading made from a collage of your latest class activity. Behold is a search tool for high-quality images on Flickr. It goes beyond typical search tools by looking beyond tags and filenames to find what is inside at the pixel level. In addition to a keyword search, other filters allow you to find images licensed for free use, modification, or commercial use. For a full overview of how to use Behold, click on the "About" link for video examples on using filters. Be sure to preview any searches or results you plan to share with students. Flickr can have images of just about anything. You should also double-check the Flickr image page for the image you choose to double-verify that the license is what you sought (CC, for example). If the image owner changes the license after the image is indexed by Behold, the image may show in the wrong results.

Use this tool to find high-quality images for classroom projects. When using images on a web page or wiki, use ImageCodr reviewed here to correctly use and give proper credit. BOTH the image AND the licensing will be displayed. Post images as writing prompts, you-name-it science questions, or world language conversation starters, all from a simple Flickr image search! Use images as examples of design principles or art elements. Be sure students understand the different types of images available and use images that are correctly licensed in their own media projects. Model use of this tool for using images from Flickr. To give image credit in a slide show or other media project, click to see the full image on Flickr, double-check the license information, and copy the URL for the Flickr page. Paste it into the credits below the image on your slide.
