In the Classroom

The most useful resource on this site would be the list of resources that offer help to someone suffering from suicidal thoughts. Share the resources with students during a health class on the interactive whiteboard or projector. While a student suffering from these thoughts won't jump up and thank you, having the information can only benefit them.

This article from the Mayo Clinic seeks to dispel a number of common misconceptions about the nature of suicidal persons, especially young people. It also provides specific strategies for recognizing and responding to warning signs of suicide.

tag(s): psychology (67)

In the Classroom

This article would be the most useful in high school, and would be appropriate for gathering general information about suicide and help lines. Use the site in a health class as a way to broach the topic with students, sharing the site on an interactive whiteboard or projector. Teachers can have students explore it on their own, afterward having a class discussion on ways to spot depression in friends and how to deal with it.
