Anki is a flashcard creator with a twist. The program is used every day, and each response is rated as Easy, Very easy, Good, or Again. Very easy questions won't be shown again for 7 days. Again, responses will be shown during the same session. Choose the number of flashcards to use for each session, the time to spend, and the number of questions to be offered. Search by topic to find ready-made flashcards or create your own. This program needs to be downloaded to your computer following the on-site directions. Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and Linux versions are available.

In the Classroom
Create flashcards for your classes using Anki -- or have them make their own. Try using them as an introduction to a concept, then again in the practice of the idea, and again as a final review. It is a nice three-for-one creation deal! This would be great for teaching Latin prefixes and suffixes of words to students. Use this site to learn science terms or for standardized test preparation. Have students create flashcards and share them to quiz themselves within their own groups. Teach students in higher grades how to create flash cards with multiple blanks to challenge their brain to remember more pieces of the puzzle (even counterexamples). Show them how to carefully read through their classroom notes and underline the most important word or words in a sentence. Then have them leave out the most important words for their flashcards. Learning support teachers might want to have small groups create cards together to review before tests. Have students create flashcard sets to "test" classmates on what they "teach" in oral reports. Since this program is a download, sharing flashcards may be challenging. One suggestion is to download the program onto a USB stick to be shared as needed. Add the Web Annotations extension for Google Chrome to annotate web pages, highlight text, and capture online information. Create courses to share content with students, livestream lessons to student devices, conduct formative assessments, collect real-time student responses, and provide feedback on student work. Students can follow along with presentations, PDFs, Google Slides, and Annotate notebooks while adding their own notes and responses. Annotate also includes graphing and drawing question types useful for math and other content areas. Simply type in a short question then copy the link to your site. All responses show up in the answer box below the question in a word cloud type of format. Responses are posted in order of ratings. Email registration is required to post and answer questions. An optional poll can be added to each question. Though this site is affiliated with places to buy books i.e., Amazon, you can also find these books at your public library. An alternative would be to consider a "Wish List," either online with Amazon or publish it in your newsletter that goes home to parents and that you can mention at back-to-school night.After reading the book to the class or a small group, ask students to think about what the author was trying to tell the students about the topic (diversity, etc.). Ask for volunteers to answer. Remind students to be respectful of others' opinions during an open discussion. Use the books suggested on this site to start a discussion as to why the topic is important. After this discussion you may want to use Gravity, reviewed here to have students consolidate their learning by stating what they learned from the book and possibly replying to another classmate's response to the book.

Padlet TA is a helpful assistant for creating many educational work documents without requiring registration for most tasks. Options include lesson planning, worksheet creation, text-leveling tools, and more. After choosing a tool, complete the form that asks for information like grade level, topic, and additional context. Add a file, content from Google Drive, a link, or a YouTube video. Adding content from Google Drive requires logging in to a Padlet account. After adding information, click the bright colored bubble next to the form to generate content. When finished, copy the text to a document, export it to Google Docs or PDF, or use the share link to share the URL of a view-only version of your prompt and output.

ArcGIS StoryMaps is a web-based tool that helps teachers and students create interactive digital stories using maps, text, images, videos, audio, charts, and other media. Students can use it to show how people, places, events, and ideas are connected, making it useful for geography, social studies, science, history, and research projects. Teachers can also use publicly shared StoryMaps as virtual field trips or engaging introductions to a new topic. Students can create their own StoryMaps to share research, explain a historical journey, investigate a local issue, or present learning in a visual and organized way. Viewing public StoryMaps is free, but creating and publishing StoryMaps usually requires an ArcGIS Online account. Eligible U.S. K-12 schools may be able to receive access through Esri's no-cost Schools Mapping Software Bundle.

In the Classroom
Bookmark and save this site for use when implementing STEAM activities or makerspaces. Introduce this activity with a projector or on an interactive whiteboard to show students how to navigate the site. Then, in your flipped or blended classroom (or at a computer center), have students, or small groups of students, explore on their own. Allow them to choose a book (creating book groups?) or a project to explore. Ask students to create their own concept maps to record their learning and understanding using MindMup, reviewed here. Challenge students to use their concept maps to share what they learned with peers by making an interactive infographic using Gennially, reviewed here. Arcoiris offers online educational games for 3 to 10 year olds in English and Spanish. Activity topics include shapes, numbers, letters, and more. They are relatively simple but extremely useful. Conversion between Spanish and English is simple using the buttons near the top right-hand corner of the home page.

In the Classroom
Use this site as a learning station on individual computers or your Interactive Whiteboard. Leave the language set to Spanish for students to practice learning Spanish on their own. Share with parents through your classroom website or blog for students to practice early learning skills. Use this site as a resource for Spanish speaking students. At Arteater, you can create hand-drawn GIFs from your artwork by following three steps. First, print a template. Then, select templates from different ability levels, from beginner to advanced. Draw in each frame within the template, then take a photo and upload your work. After your image processes, download it as an animated GIF.
In the Classroom
Create animated images for students to include with any presentation. Have younger students use a three-frame loop to demonstrate the stages of plant growth or steps in a math problem, while older students can use the six- or nine-frame loop to include more details. Include animated images in presentations made with Sway reviewed here or in digital books made using Book Creator reviewed here. Each episode features Arthur and his friends navigating relatable childhood experiences that impart valuable life lessons. Episodes are approximately 15 minutes long, making them suitable for classroom listening sessions. Teachers can utilize these podcasts to encourage discussions on topics such as friendship, responsibility, and problem-solving, enhancing students' social and emotional learning.

In the Classroom
Before listening, show students an episode title or short description. Have them predict what the story will be about and what lessons Arthur might learn from it. After listening, compare predictions with the actual storyline. Have students brainstorm a topic, write a script, and record their own short audio story inspired by themes from "The Arthur Podcast".
