Have no fear, SlideShare is here! Whether you consider yourself techno phobic or ultra savvy, this site offers something for every level of user. This site hosts tons of prefabricated slide shows or Power Point presentations, and considers itself the largest presentation sharing website available. As educators, we know the value of professional borrowing and this site puts slide show resources for any content area right at your fingertips. For the more daring, upload your own slide presentation creations. Once posted, you can see how many people have viewed your show. View comments left by people who have viewed your show to gain feedback and participate in educational discussion. Shows can be embedded in blogs, social networking sites, or downloaded to your computer (Where - YES! You can edit it to suit your specific needs!) This is not a slide show creation tool, but rather a sharing resource for educators and civilians alike.

In the Classroom
Pull published slide shows for use in your classroom. Download a slide show as a template and modify it for your specific needs. In science class, have students record each other completing a lab activity. Then have the students put that footage into a slide show with snapshots of work and products of the lab. Have students create a voice over track and sync it using the slidecast part of the site. It would make for a powerful learning experience. Post slide shows of class notes and have students comment on what they understand or do not understand as an online discussion. If you teach online through cyberschool or virtual learning programs, use slidecast to create "teaching tracks" to go with your notes. It allows you to create a short, but helpful lecture for your distance learners. They will appreciate the verbal aspect of the learning. This website allows you to upload, so you will need a basic understanding of where your files are located on your computer to do this. However, you are not required as a member to upload anything unless you want to do so. An interesting and valuable feature of this site is that it will allow you to sync audio files or podcasts with your slide show, creating what the website has coined a slidecast. You can create groups to share slideshows privately to only your group members.Edge Features:

The free version allows you to crowdsource questions, share three polls per event, and brainstorm ideas. After creating your session and questions, provide participants with the code to access your event. Other features include a word cloud option created from audience responses and the ability to crowdsource questions and upvote favorites, so they move to the top of the list.

Interested in making a QR code, but think it is too difficult? Use this site for a quick and easy way to make a QR code of web links. Simply enter the url. (Be sure that SmallQR is selected under Advanced options.) Save your QR code as a PNG image file and be sure to read the tips: a.make sure that the image is not printed too small and b. test the QR code out before using it elsewhere.

Create a QR code for your class site or blog and include it on handouts for Back to School night. Create a QR code scavenger hunt for students, making a webquest more engaging. Add QR codes to documents for students to check their answers to questions. Expand knowledge of a topic by adding a QR code to a site that expands upon what is in the textbook. Create a data chart accessible via a QR code. Students access the data and manipulate the information. Have students create a book trailer or review and affix a QR code to the outside of the book. Students may be more apt to read a book that has been reviewed by another student. Make a display completely interactive with a QR code that describes the assignment, the process, the research, student's reactions and more! Add extra help information to any assignment that asks students to solve problems. Create an online help tutorial accessible via a QR code, and place the code beside a similar problem. Link directly to a Google Map. Place QR code contact information for you and your school on contact cards to give to parents. Attach QR codes to physical objects around the room to provide information about the object. This bright and cheerful blog offers original interactive whiteboard resources created by a certified SMARTboard trainer. The site is updated often, get notices of updates by email or by following on X (formerly Twitter) or Facebook. To find archived files, search the site using the search box at the top of the page, search archived files by month, or find links to notebook files on the right-hand side of the home page. Especially helpful are the author's notes when posting new files as she offers tips on how to use it in the classroom. An example is the singing horses file (check it out, very funny!) that she uses to help students get used to using an interactive whiteboard while learning cause and effect. Be sure to check out the Facebook page template which includes a template for student use. Since this teacher uses SMART brand IWB, you may need to use SMART Notebook Express reviewed hereto open some files on another brand of whiteboard.

It guides them to make goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. The worksheet asks simple questions, such as the goal, progress measurement criteria, and the goal date to complete the project. It also includes a section for creating an action plan that lists steps to take, potential challenges, and helpful resources. This worksheet is useful for teaching students how to plan, stay focused, and work toward their goals in an organized way.

Have students brainstorm personal, academic, or classroom goals (for example, reading more, improving writing, or being kinder on the playground). Then guide them through completing the SMART Goals Worksheet together to turn a simple idea into a clear, structured goal. Have students pair up to share their SMART goals and action plans. Partners can give friendly feedback by checking if the goals are specific, measurable, and realistic. Create a "Goal Wall" where students post their goals (or just the focus area, like "Reading" or "Organization"). Update the wall as students reach milestones to celebrate effort and growth.

Smarthistory started as a blog featuring free audio guides, podcasts, and videos. Later, it became an interactive exploration of eras, styles, and artists. Smarthistory has recently merged with Khan Academy, sharing the same concept: that high-quality education should be free and available to all. You can watch Smarthistory videos on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable in class.

This resource allows you to create slide shows, greeting cards, scrapbooks, invitations, collages, and more. There is a free basic program, and paid upgrades are available if desired. For educational purposes, the upgrades are not needed. Photos, videos, and music can all be added to your creations. A Smilebox template must be used to make your creations. Products made with this program can be shared on web pages, blogs, and social networking sites, or emailed for free. Several themes in each category are free. You no longer have to download this program.

Upload images from your computer. You can save web images or use screenshots, as well, to be used in your creations. Watch copyright! Check out Awesome Screenshot, reviewed here, for details for a screen shot taker. From there, it is easy to simply click and follow the on-screen instructions. The program is simple to navigate and very user-friendly for those who are accustomed to web tools.With the variety of formats, Smilebox has a wide variety of applications in any type of classroom! For basic technology integration, extend learning with this tool. Use in history class to have students create collages of different time periods, such as the American Civil War. Create topics such as Lincoln's Election, the Gettysburg Address, the Battle of Antietam, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Battle of Gettysburg, and Lee's Surrender. Have pairs or groups of three select topics at random, then create a collage or "scrapbook" of the event. Try having students choose a role from which to create their assignment, such as a Rebel soldier, a Union Soldier, a volunteer nurse, or a mother or father of children fighting on different sides of the war. Have students collect copyright-free images online for their use, or create their own by reenacting scenes and taking photos for their productions. Unleash student creativity by showing them this tool as a resource in creating presentations and projects for your class and others. What a fabulous tool to use on the first day of school (as a welcome), at the beginning of a new unit, or at a back-to-school night with parents! Elementary classes could create whole-class scrapbooks of curriculum projects, such as their science garden or Colonial Days celebration.

The Smithsonian Institution website is a valuable resource for educators, offering access to a vast collection of digital exhibitions, lesson plans, and interactive learning tools. Teachers can explore history, science, art, and culture topics through virtual tours, online activities, and curated educational materials from Smithsonian museums, research centers, and libraries. The site includes resources for all grade levels, including printable worksheets, videos, and inquiry-based lesson plans designed to engage students in critical thinking and discovery. It is an excellent tool for supplementing classroom instruction with high-quality, museum-based learning experiences. The videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

Have students explore a Smithsonian virtual exhibit, such as the National Museum of Natural History, and provide a scavenger hunt list with key artifacts, asking students to find and describe their significance. Select a primary source or artifact from the Smithsonian Learning Lab or a digital collection and have students analyze the object. The site allows educators to discover ready-made collections, create their own lessons using primary sources, and share interactive activities with students using built-in tools such as annotations, questions, and quizzes. The initial game offering, Shutterbugs: Wiggle and Stomp, offers the opportunity to describe movement and motion while visiting exotic animals from the zoo. Game difficulty levels scale up or down based on your response and adults receive printable reports of mastered words. Coming soon is a Memory Match game. These games are device agnostic. Add ready-made graphics, images from files on your computer, or images from the web. Quickly embed text, videos, and tweets, too. Choose from several attractive themes. Share your creations via email, URL, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), or print them to hand out or hang on a bulletin board. Check to see who has read your newsletter and who hasn't. In the Classroom
Show students how to embed media into a Smore newsletter to create their own "infographics," transforming and displaying what they have learned from a unit of study. Use your interactive whiteboard and projector to let student groups present a flyer about a book they've read, a news article, or similar. Have them create campaign posters for fictitious candidates as you study the election process. Smore lets you preview as you work, or return later to complete and publish your flyers. Divide the class into teams and play as a whole group. Each team answers a timed question; if the answer is correct, they roll and move their piece. A perfect activity for end-of-week content wrap-ups. Create historical or geographical questions tied to a unit. Each correct answer helps students move forward, reinforcing key facts while making the learning process enjoyable. Have students design their own board based on what they've learned in a unit. Snappa is an easy to use graphics editor and infographic creator. Use your own images or choose from Snappa's large library of over 500,000 royalty-free, licensed for commercial use images, 200 fonts, and 70,000 graphics. After choosing your image size use the site's templates to begin a design, or start with a blank canvas to create your own. Use the tools on the dashboard to change backgrounds, add effects, personalize text, and more. When complete, download to your computer or share to your connected social media sites. The free plan provides five downloads per month and limited templates. At the time of this review, the majority of templates are free.

Snapstouch converts your photos into images that appear to be paintings. Choose and upload your image to begin. Select from the two options of painting 1 and painting 2, each option provides a different look to the "painting." This site also provides a couple of options to add outlines, change the brush size, and adjust the level of painting. Click "paint" to convert your image, when finished, choose to download to save on your device as a JPG image.

Use this tool anytime to add interest to photos for use on class blogs, wikis, or in presentation tools. Share with older students to use for converting images for projects or presentations. The site also provides an Author Spotlight on Charles Schulz. There is also a link for fun and games with printable pages, puzzles, word problems, and other "fun" stuff. Have students utilize and manipulate comic strips for dialog-writing lessons, summarizing, predicting and retelling stories. Use comic strips for literature responses. School counselors will also like the Peanuts strips as conversation starters about feelings. You could even use an online comic strip maker, such as Make Beliefs Comix to create your own class or student comic strips after looking at some examples from Peanuts. Use your interactive whiteboard or projector to share the Fun and Games .
