This site provides many rubrics for assessing portfolios, cooperative projects, oral presentations, and much more. Quick links lead to different categories such as web 2.0 and content areas of math, art, and science. Each rubric is in a table form with criteria listed vertically and rating categories are horizontal, all contain well-defined expectations and explanations of each category of scoring. Be sure to check out the section with rubrics for primary grades including a kindergarten writing rubric and rubrics for teamwork. Print any of the rubrics using the PDF link located near the top of the page.

Her youth has always appealed to young readers, as well as her young subject matter. This is a typical official website that includes biographical information, with information on her books and movie adaptations. The book's pages include the author's comments, as well as short excerpts and summaries of the works.

Turn bullying prevention into an integrated month of learning with this ready-to-use collection of lessons, activities, reproducibles, literature connections, and assessment materials for grades 3-5. Centered on empathy, kindness, acceptance, positive communication, and safe responses to bullying, the resource includes lessons such as "The Problem with Bullying," "Mean Words Hurt," "Helping Our Friends Stop Bullying," "The Other Person's Shoes," "Just Kidding," and "Courageous and Safe." Students examine teasing and bullying, practice being positive bystanders, distinguish asking for help from tattling, and consider when to seek adult assistance. Printable materials include vocabulary activities, a word find, scenario-based worksheets, a game, writing and drawing prompts, and a culminating bullying quiz. Cross-curricular extension ideas connect the theme with language arts, literature, art, music, and math.

Have students complete the "The Problem with Bullying" activity, then discuss nonviolent responses such as staying calm, using I-messages, saying "stop," avoiding fighting, and seeking help from a trusted adult. Ask students to examine the "Just Kidding" scenarios individually, decide when joking crosses the line into hurtful teasing, and defend their decisions with evidence from each situation. Follow with a whole-class discussion about how intent and impact can differ. Have students create a cartoon showing a situation in which asking an adult for help is appropriate, as suggested by the resource. Students can draw their cartoons on paper or use Free Comic Maker by Adobe, reviewed here, to create a digital version.

Sail the Book does what we all wish we had time to do: it pulls together works of literature--all of which are focused on maritime themes--and uses Google Earth technology to bring them to life. With so many online resources out there, it's great to encounter a truly well-integrated interdisciplinary site that draws on the strength of 21st century technology to transform classic literature. Each of six books, including Darwin's Voyage of the Beagle, is presented in full text form, chapter by chapter. Each chapter is accompanied by a "tour" linked to Google Earth, and here is where the fun begins! The tours include a number of Points of Interest that open in Google Earth as well as questions and activities that link to passages within the text. Taken as a whole, this is an interdisciplinary approach at its best, combining geography, history, science, art and literature into one tidy package. If you aren't sure where to get started, visit the Video Tutorials to learn more! The video clips are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

Developed by a teacher, Sail the Book is exactly what all good teachers wish they had time to do: create imaginative, integrated units that take advantage of today's technology. Sail the Book could be used in conjunction with a regular classroom study of one of the works of literature included. However, a reasonably self-directed student could undertake an independent reading of any of the books, using Sail the Book to gain further insight. Alternatively, the "tours" might help struggling readers or non-native readers get the most out of these works, helping the words come to life through more visual terms. The site seems uniquely suited to a multi-disciplinary setting like a gifted enrichment class, where students are free to pull from a variety of curricula--science, literature, geography, and history--to add value and rigor to the traditional classroom. The site is easily adaptable. Use one chapter. Use one full book. Do the tours with the activities or without the activities. And once your students have done a tour, ask them how THEY might construct a tour of their own related to some other work of literature they love. Learn all about the endangered tree octopus and efforts to keep them from extinction at this very realistic "fake" site. Read all about the characteristics of the tree octopus including habitat, reproduction, and why it has become endangered. View some of the activities such as a trick or treat box to collect candy to hang in trees for the octopus. Peruse pictures of rare sightings of the octopus. The falsehoods shown on the site, such as the inclusion of other hoax species and organizations (mixed with links to pages about real species and organizations) are sure to give you a chuckle!

Use this site as an anticipatory set or "activator" to introduce a unit or lesson on finding credible sources. Share this tool on a projector or interactive whiteboard. If you are beginning the process of integrating technology, have students create blogs sharing their learning about analyzing Internet resources (and even fake news) using Telegra.ph, reviewed here. This blog creator requires no registration. You may want to share the Wikipedia and Snopes articles about the Tree Octopus. What a great creative writing idea this is! Have your students try their hand at something like this. Use one of the web page making tools reviewed by TeachersFirst here, to publish the creative writing assignments. I have used this site for years. It is well made and, once the students catch on, it provides the basis for great discussions and a lot of laughter. I also use the Dehydrated Water website where you, too can buy dehydrated water or, even buy a franchise to sell dehydrated water. My other favorite is Dog Island Free Forever where your dog can live stress free with other dogs without the stress that comes from living with humans.Sharon, PA, Grades: 0 - 8

One of the most interesting features of this site is the option to download playlists, convert them into smaller files, then cut or crop them to merge into a single video. Convert and cut takes you to a different application to use after downloading the video file to your computer.

Save the Video provides options for using videos in the classroom that may otherwise be unavailable due to district filters. Take advantage of the site's features to download and convert playlists to create and share content specifically tailored to your needs. For example, find your favorite videos on habitats, create a playlist, then use Save the Video to create a single video about habitats with only the content you choose. Take your videos a step further and modify them using playposit, reviewed here, to add comments and questions onto your video for students to view and answer. Playposit also offers the option for students to add comments. Include your video along with your other student resources within a presentation created using Sway, reviewed here, for easy access to all materials. If you teach younger students, create videos of them sharing information about your topic, then use Save the Video to combine their responses into a single video. SceneVR is a virtual reality editor that turns panoramic images into a slideshow. Use the editor to upload panoramic photos from a camera or panoramic scenes from phones. To create your slideshow, log in using your Google account to open SceneVr Creator and follow prompts to upload images. After editing your project, publish using the links to share online, embed it into a website, or share it on social media. Be sure to check out the site's tips for creating projects.

Use SceneVR to take slide presentations to a whole new level. Quickly upload panoramic photos from class field trips, science experiments, or presentations to create a unique presentation to share with parents and families on your website. Ask students to use their photos to create a virtual reality presentation. For example, when learning about geometric shapes, have students take panoramic images of your classroom and school. Put these images into SceneVR to create a presentation and allow students to explore your "virtual world" for shapes found around them. Extend learning further by incorporating the slideshows into a multimedia presentation such as a digital book made with Book Creator, reviewed here, or Sway, reviewed here. Want to preview a book? Scholastic Kids allows you to preview books from Marvel, Dogman, The Babysitters Club, Upside Down Magic and more. Once you select the book series, you have access to a short blurb about the book, a video trailer, other suggested books, and activity sheets. There is also a Sneak Peek of the Week, which allows you to download the beginning of the book. Scholastic Kids provides links to purchase books, but you can also visit your local library to get them.

School Pages is a free site that offers various lessons already created in many subject areas. Lessons can be sorted by grade level (grades 1 through 10) and subject - English, environmental studies, Hindi, math, physical education, science, and social studies. You can access both AI Tools and AI chat if you create a free account. AI tools include a Quiz Generator, a Similar Question Generator, a National Curriculum Framework Assistant, a Lesson Plan Generator, an Opening Hook Generator, an Assignment Generator, and Bloom's Question Generator. The AI chat is similar to a chatbot in that it can assist with teaching strategies, topic explanations, or any other teaching-related questions.

Educators can choose from a large library of ready-to-use activities or create their own custom experiences for any subject area. Popular Spaces include historical figure conversations, book discussions, tutoring sessions, role-playing simulations, debate activities, writing support, and inquiry-based learning experiences. Students interact with AI through guided conversations and activities while teachers monitor progress, engagement, and understanding in real time through a classroom dashboard. In the Classroom
Use SchoolAI to create and share engaging activities with all students and for all subjects. For example, differentiate text easily to fit the abilities of all students, generate a list of engaging activities for any topic, or quickly create a worksheet or multiple choice quiz as a formative assessment. As students engage in chats with historical figures or choose your own adventure activities, ask them to use the information learned as a starting point for additional research. Use Symbaloo, reviewed here or another curation tool to collect and share additional resources with students, such as videos, online articles, and book suggestions. As a final extended learning activity, ask students to share their learning using Sway, reviewed here, Genially, reviewed here, or Adobe Creative Cloud Express, reviewed here to create multimedia presentations.
