Vidtionary is a video dictionary defining words through images (and videos). The short videos include the word said aloud and shown in print, with sound effects or engaging music in the background. Browse entries using the search bar or view featured collections. Browse alphabetically or explore collections. Because of the wide range of topics and difficulty levels, these vocabulary words could be used with any age. Video lengths run less than one minute per definition, many as short as 10-15 seconds. Originally designed to teach English to speakers of Korean and Japanese, the visual nature of the site appeals to all language learners.

While this site is ideal for any student learning new vocabulary, it is especially useful for ENL/ELL students or speech/language students with vocabulary deficits. Share selected videos in primary grades to help students see how new words are defined and spelled. Challenge your gifted students to find new vocabulary words to share with the class. Use in any classroom as a model (sharing on your interactive whiteboard or projector). What font do you read fastest in? Take the test provided by the Virtual Readability Lab to test the best font for you. Begin by starting the test to view the directions. The test shares several short reading passages along with comprehension questions at the end of each passage and takes approximately five minutes to complete. When finished, users receive a report that includes the number of words read per minute, the correct percentage of questions answered, and the font that best matches the users' reading style. The authors of the Virtual Readability Lab recommend participants complete the test on a computer, not a phone, to achieve the best results.

According to studies, reading in a font that best matches your reading style can increase reading speed without affecting comprehension and lead to better focus. Knowing your readers' fastest font allows educators to support student learning by adjusting fonts when creating worksheets, sharing websites, or providing articles. Use the information learned to adjust font settings in computer browsers. Go to settings, appearance, and fonts in Chrome or Edge to change all websites' font families, sizes, and weights. Include this site in activities encouraging students to participate in active learning and reflective experiences. After completing the test, ask students to write a summary of their results that includes action steps based on the information received. Have your students pretend to be an author who visits your school. Make a video of the "visits" from several "authors." Make a wish list of their expectations from the students. Have students create fictional stories of why the author wrote a particular book. Share them with the author for huge laughs. Visme is an online visual-communication and design platform that helps users create presentations, infographics, charts and graphs, documents, social media graphics, videos, animations, printables, and other interactive projects. Users can begin with a template or create a project from scratch, then customize it with a drag-and-drop editor, text, images, icons, data visualizations, audio, video, animations, and uploaded files. Visme also supports interactive features such as clickable links, pop-ups, hover effects, and hotspots, making it useful for creating engaging presentations and digital learning materials.
The platform includes a large template and asset library, along with tutorials and help resources for users who are new to visual design. Teachers and students can upload their own images, audio, and video files and can share finished projects through a live link, embed code, or selected download formats. Collaboration tools are available for shared projects, although some sharing, privacy, download, storage, and team features depend on the account plan.
Visme also includes AI tools, including an AI Designer and AI Presentation Maker that can generate editable presentations, documents, and other designs from a written prompt. Turn any image into a fully functional QR Code in 3 easy steps that take less than one minute. Upload your image or choose one from Visualead's online gallery. Set the desired destination for your QR code. Place the QR code where you choose on the image. Upload your image from your computer file or drag and drop from a folder on your computer. Choose from options for the QR link: choose url, vCard, YouTube video, Facebook, or many other web-based media choices. Drag, resize and place your code anywhere on the image. When finished, click on generate to complete the QR code generation process. Login using Facebook, Google, or email to receive the finished image. Share using the social media links or download to your computer. Here is a (link to an example).
A tip: when creating your QR Code, you will see a link to "generate your image" on the last step. It will give you the options of "try again" or "next." Choose "next" to go to the final step. "Try again doesn't mean that your image wasn't created, it just gives you the option for personalizing the code differently before completing the process.

Vizzlo is a free chart maker site offering a wide variety of options for sharing data in different formats. Get inspired by visiting the gallery to view examples of the layouts and means for sharing data. To begin creating, sign in to your account and select "Create." If you know the type of chart you want, use the keyword search to find it. Next, browse through the page to see examples, or use the filters to find options by use, type, and alphabetical list. The possibilities include well-known charts, including timeline creators and pie charts, along with less familiar varieties such as puzzle charts. Select a chart to begin creating by using the features found on the dashboard. Personalize data, colors, and the page setup. When complete, download as a PNG image, share a link by email or embed the code into a website. Free plans offer many features and access to a wide variety of charts; however, all charts created using a free plan will include Vizzlo's dominant watermark on the image.

Collect data in your classroom and quickly create a graph to represent it, then choose another design to share the data in another way. Make learning new words fun for students using Vocabulary Adventure Cards. These digital flashcards are intended for use every day to help kids build their vocabulary, stimulate their imagination, and enjoy storytelling. The cards encourage children to connect the words to their own lives, invite them to think of words to complete stories, and challenge them to name the word being defined when read aloud.

In the Classroom
Conduct an interactive vocabulary hunt. Use your whiteboard to show Vocabulary Adventure Cards, and then have students find related objects in class. Have your students make short videos with Vmaker, reviewed here explaining word pairs from the site, boosting their vocabulary and digital storytelling skills. Have students choose one of the stories and collaboratively add to the story using new words. Record a message and embed it into your favorite site or provide a link to share, for free. Send to a friend by entering your email and the email of the recipient. Share on many social media sites with the press of a button. Recording the message is easy, and embedding it into a site such as a wiki or blog has never been simpler! No login or registration is needed. If you choose to send a message via email, you must set a password for the site. Vocaroos are stored on their server. Created messages can also be downloaded to individual computers. Visit their FAQs for common questions and answers.

In the Classroom
You need to be able to navigate the website controls and adjust the sound levels on your computer. Copy/pasting embed codes is also a necessary skill for insertion into a website. Email the sound clip very easily.Future savings of Vocaroos are uncertain, depending upon server space. Before using it with students, you may wish to obtain permission from administration and/or parents. Be sure to check your school's acceptable use policy. Students should be made aware of acceptable use and the consequences of misuse of the service.
Vocaroo has a wide variety of applications in any type of classroom! For basic technology integration, extend and enhance learning with this tool. Record snippets of information as reminders on your class website or instructions for students to follow. This is terrific for students receiving learning support or non-readers! Have students describe aspects of their classroom learning experiences to share with others, such as what they learned from a science experiment or discovered about life in Colonial America. Record a quick message for an absentee and email the link to him/her explaining how to catch up on missing work. Create tutorial pieces that students can use as study aids (or have them create them for each other). Use this site in world language classes or for ELL students: have students record and listen to their own pronunciation or send short messages to each other to translate. Have students use this site to practice speeches before the presentation to hear their speed, tone, and words. Use this site for research presentations, substitute instructions, or many other uses. With younger students, read a short story on Vocaroo and have them follow along with a picture book. Or have the students read their own stories into Vocaroo and email the readings to their parents! For Mother's Day, why not have students record messages for mom or grandma? Another idea: create a class wiki where parents can "find" the entire selection of Vocaroos for Mother's Day (or another holiday). Record Vocaroos of each student talking about the importance of Moms for Mother's Day or how grateful they are for certain things at Thanksgiving. Embed them all in a class wiki to share with parents. Just email the URL for the collection.

Enjoy short book trailers similar to movie trailers on the Palm Beach Schools Vodcast page. These exciting book previews make choosing a new book easy! Scroll down the bar to the right of the main video screen to view options. Each book trailer is approximately one minute in length. They are just right to inspire interest without giving away the whole book.

In the Classroom
Access to a microphone is required to record a voice. There is an option to use text-to-speech (however, it does not have great sound) import audio from a file or use a cell phone instead to capture audio. Only one minute of audio can be recorded, so be brief. Students need to carefully think about their narrative before recording. Users must be able to copy and paste HTML code for use in an external site.Use the controls to create your character's style, click customization to further refine your character, change your background, and add your voice. Keep in mind that animated backgrounds may take longer to load on your site. When done, click publish to view and copy the embed code, which can then be used on a blog, wiki, or web page.
Monitor all aspects of student production and use for appropriateness and copyright. If concerned about using student email, consider creating a class account for students. Be sure students understand not to change other students' Vokis when using a class account. Check your school district's policy about using emails or identifying student information on the Internet.
Introduce and share this site on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Use this free site to record a greeting for students that appears on the start page of your blog, wiki, or website. Record online assignment information that is spoken by the Voki (always more pleasing to look at than the teacher!). Use this to share homework assignments, a message from you (via a substitute), and more. Use a character that is interesting or matches the assignment you may be leaving. Use Voki to record two different opinions or viewpoints and create a poll of students to view reactions. Use the Voki in Math to pose possible solutions to problems and create a class discussion or poll to determine which is the correct answer. As students work on projects, create a Voki that provides hints and tips. Allow students to use Voki to provide peer assessments. Consider using Voki in place of other assignments, such as "What I did this summer vacation..." or "Here is information about me..." Use in any language class to record narratives or translations. Students can create a variety of Voki recordings over time to show their language learning. Create classroom newscasts using student(s) on a rotating basis. Use Voki for vocabulary exercises, which can be created by students or the teacher. The possibilities for this tool are endless. The quick and engaging nature of this tool offers unlimited uses.
