At first glance, this website may appear too juvenile for middle school students. However, many of the activities and stories are quite age-appropriate and would be both educational and enjoyable for middle school classrooms.

It's a writing activity that teaches about myths from fifteen regions of the world. Read the myths of ancient Greece. On this page, find directions to write your own myth with Jane Yolen's help. Lessons instruct the learning of the characteristics of a myth through reading, comparisons, and making inferences. Learn about Quetzalcoatl, the spirit of love from Central America, Osiris, the lord of all things from Egypt, and many others. There is much here to explore for all ages! The Interactive Brainstorming Machine still requires Flash.

In the Classroom
After you choose your level, discover one or many of the lessons to integrate into your English Language Arts or Social Studies curriculum. Choose your objectives, and find the lessons that are appropriate. Some lessons can be shared on the interactive whiteboard or projector. Others are more appropriate alone as individual work. Materials are included so much of the prep work is already done for you. To conclude the myths unit, have students create a play featuring a unique culture and a hero they create. Students will need a detailed script containing; theme, plot, settings, and characters including a hero. Go as far as you want developing props, costumes, and accompanying sounds and music. Have students present using a live presentation, video, or digital storytelling. Choose from the TeachersFirst Digital Storytelling tools, reviewed here. This site is a great reference for an after-school enrichment program on writing, reading, book clubs, or even self esteem.

SkyFrost is a simple, free online tool created by a teacher to help with classroom management by randomly selecting names from a list, which can be useful for calling on students, forming groups, or choosing volunteers. The Name Selection Tool lets you input a list of names, randomly pick one, and remove selected names from the pool. It also lets you drag and drop names between lists and display the selected name on a separate screen, which is helpful for classrooms with dual displays. The site is lightweight, runs entirely in your browser without uploading any data, and can even be saved locally for offline use, making it a practical classroom resource for promoting fairness and engagement in participation.

Napkin Slides turns any idea into a customizable slide presentation from any prompt. Type or paste your idea, then add an optional source file (such as an Excel, PowerPoint, or Word document) to get started. Slides asks a few clarifying questions to gain additional context, then generates a slide deck based on your responses. Once finished, users can refine slides, including changing text, adjusting image size, and more. When complete, present slides from Napkin Slides or export as a PowerPoint, PDF, SVG, or PNG file. The free plan includes 500 credits weekly; Napkin says it uses about 1 AI credit per word processed, though more complex operations may use more credits. This means the free plan is likely enough to create several lesson presentations each week. For example, if you typically create 8- to 12-slide lesson decks from about 100 words of notes, you could expect to generate around five presentations per week before reaching the 500-credit limit

Learn about the exploration and pioneers of the American West through several online unit studies for middle school students in PDF format. Scroll down the page to find "Emigrants Crossing the Plains" utilizes the paintings of Albert Bierstadt created during his journeys along the Oregon Trail. "End of the Trail" focuses on the sculptures of James Earle Fraser depicting spiritual representations of Native Americans. Madonnas of the Prairie: Depictions of Women in the American West is found under Previous Exhibits Educations Guide and features works focusing on women in the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Each unit includes an introduction, discussion questions, and teaching activities. There are many more unit studies to investigate. The National Postal Museum site showcases the postal service with an online calendar of events, highlights, and photographs. Highlights include current exhibitions, special topics, stamp collecting, educator resources, and more. Google Arts and Culture Street View has a 360 tour of the museum. STAMP camp (currently closed at the time of this review) offers activities in science, technology, art, math, and problem-solving. STAMP camp is for children ages 6 through 12. All lessons are online and can be completed at your child's own pace.

Celebrate National Reading Month with engaging activities that encourage students to explore the world, write their own stories, and harness the power of books to create projects and presentations. Students can also participate in STEM and history-based lessons. Featured activities include March Into Reading, Story Quest, Reading Around the World, and Books to Build. Grade bands for the lesson plans are organized as follows: Kindergarten-Grade 2, Grades 3-5, and Grades 6-8. Each activity is linked to a Google Slides presentation that provides a teacher overview, estimated time required, targeted skills, and reflection prompts.
