Students can create a labeled sketch of a pond or lake habitat and discuss how organisms depend on one another. Students can use information from the website to build a food web showing producers, consumers, and decomposers in a lake ecosystem. They can use arrows to demonstrate the flow of energy and explain what might happen if one organism were removed. Have students compare lakes and ponds to other aquatic ecosystems, such as rivers, streams, wetlands, or oceans.
