Explore research, classroom materials, campaigns, and media resources created to increase accurate, contemporary representation of Native peoples and challenge stereotypes and invisibility. IllumiNative worked with Native-led organizations, Tribal Nations, educators, artists, and community leaders to change public narratives about Native peoples. Although the organization sunset in 2025, its website remains available as an archive of research and projects. Educators will find especially useful K-12 activity guides developed with the National Indian Education Association, Amplifier, and Nia Tero, including materials on Native art, storytelling, food sovereignty, traditional games, language, notable Native leaders, boarding schools, contemporary identity, and Indigenous Peoples' Day. Resources are organized into collections for Pre-K-2, grades 3-5, and grades 6-8, with additional educator lesson plans and research to support older students.

In the Classroom
Have students listen to or read a Native story and identify important details, themes, and lessons. Then have them retell, illustrate, or dramatize the story. Each episode begins with a child-friendly guided meditation, continues with a short fictional story, and includes a positive message. The site lets you browse by learning message, character type, narrator, episode number, title, character name, or keyword. Drawing with Mr. J is a video series from WOSU Classroom for students in grades K-5. In the videos, students will learn social and emotional skills and complete drawing challenges. Every video comes with a standards-aligned companion guide containing activities and resources for educators and parents. Use these videos in a variety of ways, including as a morning warm-up, a way to check in with students after lunch, or at other times throughout the day. These activities align with Strategy number 7 of Ohio's Strategic Plan for Education, Each Child, Our Future. Strategy 7 focuses on helping schools meet the needs of the whole child. There are six seasons of videos for you to use with your students. Videos are on YouTube; therefore, check that they are not blocked on your school account. Companion Guides are a PDF download.
