The iCivics website offers a variety of resources for Constitution Day, including lesson plans and videos to help students understand the U.S. Constitution's history and relevance today. Teachers can access Constitution-themed games, such as "Road to the Constitution" and "Do I Have a Right," along with the Constitution EXPLAINED video series reviewed here . These materials are designed to engage students in interactive learning while covering important constitutional concepts like the Bill of Rights, federalism, and the separation of powers.

Share the resources in this collection around Constitution Day or any time that your class is learning about the Constitution. The lesson plans are ready to go or try out one of the interactives. This interactive game challenges students to apply their knowledge of constitutional rights by helping clients determine whether their rights have been violated. Students act as lawyers, deciding whether to take on cases based on legal issues like freedom of speech, privacy, and more. Create a mock Constitutional Convention where students act as delegates from different states. Students can be assigned historical figures or states and must debate issues like representation and states' rights, eventually creating a document resembling the U.S. Constitution. Assign students different landmark Supreme Court cases that have shaped constitutional law, such as Brown v. Board of Education or Tinker v. Des Moines. Students can work in groups to research the case, its implications, and its relevance to today's society. The UFLI Toolbox is a free website that offers a variety of resources that align with the Science of Reading. When you scroll to the bottom of the website, it shares the scope and sequence of the lessons. Once you click on the lesson, you will receive resources, including a slide deck (PowerPoint and Google Slides versions) for the skill, decodable passages, home practice activities, and additional activities. Home practice provides word chains, sample words, and sentences. The additional activities include roll and read. At the end of each phonics concept, an assessment is provided. Additionally, if you click on the Resources tab, you will gain access to virtual teaching resources, dyslexia, and parent hubs, which provide lessons, videos, and support.

Groovelit uses AI to generate stories based on teacher input on the skill and content focus and suggests ideas for the type of game to create. Use Connections as an engaging tool for students to study and discuss connections between words. Create a custom game introducing new vocabulary for science and social studies units. For example, when teaching about US presidents, add categories with the presidents' last names, first names, wives' names, and birthplaces. The ReadLife Bookshelf on the Barbara Bush Foundation website offers a free online collection of books aimed at adults, children, families, and educators. This resource was developed in partnership with Worldreader's BookSmart app and includes guided activities for both readers and instructors. Each month features a new selection of books along with themed guides and resources for additional support, accessible by entering a specific library code, but you don't have to have one. The text and settings can be customized to the reader. Books are for all ages and available in English, Spanish and Ukrainian.

In the Classroom
Have students select books from the ReadLife Bookshelf, read them, and then create interactive book reviews using a tool like Padlet, reviewed here. Padlet has a ready-to-go Book Review template in their recipe gallery! Organize virtual book clubs where students discuss themes and characters from selected books on the platform. Utilize video conferencing tools like Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams to facilitate these discussions. NotebookLM is the handy study aid you never knew you needed. Add links to websites and videos, text, and documents to create study guides, timelines, an audio podcast, and an AI-generated video summarizing the information provided. Follow the prompts to add one or more items to your notebook. When ready, use the "Notebook Guide" to create study guides, FAQs, a table of contents, a timeline, or a briefing document. Once you create documents, you can select them to gather and develop additional resources, such as an outline, or ask NotebookLM to suggest related ideas. The audio summary option creates a two-person conversation in the form of a podcast to discuss the information, offering customization options that include the ability to focus the discussion on a specific topic or audience. The materials are shareable with a custom link, and you can share audio podcasts and videos with a separate link from the notebook link.
