Virtual Musical Instruments open the world of music to students who may not have access to an instrument at home. In your music class, offer the virtual piano as an option for students to learn about notes and scales without having access to a real piano. Allow your students to make their compositions to share with their peers. Challenge them to determine how to give the directions for their design to another person so they can repeat the original piece. Begin using the virtual piano with the names of notes displayed, then challenge students to begin playing without note labels. The research handbook includes webinars and The Hands-On AI Projects for the Classroom guide are from ISTE and GM. Guides contain innovative, student-driven projects that meet subject area standards while teaching students the foundations of AI and how it impacts our society. This research guide includes an extensive, downloadable document with in-depth projects and lesson plans to teach students about artificial intelligence. Separate guides are available for elementary, secondary, electives, computer science, and ethics and are available in multiple languages, including; English, Spanish, and Arabic. Read over the guide deciding which parts need to be shared with the class. Introduce the guide and the projects to students on an interactive whiteboard or with a projector through the part "activate prior knowledge." Then pair more computer savvy students with novice computer users or weak readers with stronger readers as needed. Next, the student-driven approach to the projects includes "Take a Closer Look" activities are scaffolded, guided learning activities that connect subject-area content and artificial intelligence concepts. "Culminating Performances" are meaningful performance tasks that challenge students to synthesize their learning and reflect on what they have learned. Once students have finished the first project, consider setting up computer stations for students to try out the different AI projects. These standards-aligned activities demonstrate how diverse country music careers apply STEAM skills. With activities aligned to "This is STEAM Country Video Topic Series," students can hear how STEAM skills are used in the industry. Find a virtual tour and many activities and lesson plans. Though Working in Harmony features country music, the activities and lessons can be applied to various award shows and music genres.

Google Arts and Culture has created a fun, interactive way to explore Ludwig van Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas. Start by tapping a rhythm on your space bar, and the program finds one of Beethoven's sonatas that matches their beat. After your rhythm is matched, you can further explore the sonata by listening to the entire piece, zooming in or out of the visual representation of the rhythm. Google Arts and Culture has a free downloadable teacher guide that includes over 50 pages of lessons and teaching ideas.

The "Recycle and Repurpose" lesson from Music ConstructED is a hands-on, Earth Day-inspired activity that teaches students about recycling and music. Through the stories Drum City and Ada's Violin, students explore how everyday objects can be transformed into instruments. They will keep a steady beat while identifying found-object instruments in Drum City and learn about Ada Rios, a girl who played a violin made from landfill materials. A YouTube video reinforces the real-world impact of recycling in music. If your district blocks YouTube, then the video may not be viewable.

In the Classroom
Take advantage of the hands-on activities shared in this lesson plan to engage students in learning about recycling while integrating studies of South America, Earth Day, and recycling. Find additional ideas for teaching about musical instruments at this TeachersFirst Special Topics Page, found here. Curate and share videos and websites demonstrating additional types of recycled instruments using Padlet, reviewed here, for students to use when gathering ideas for creating recycled instruments. After finishing their instruments, ask students to create and share a video discussion about the instrument using a new Padlet. Have students discuss the recycled materials used to create the instrument and demonstrate how it works in their video.

If you are still getting familiar with STEM (STEAM or STREAM), learn all about them through the resources in this collection. What we once referred to as STEM (educational curriculum that combines science, technology, engineering, and math) has evolved into STEAM and now STREAM. STEAM includes the original four areas and has integrated art into the mix. STREAM takes it further and adds a layer of reading and writing. You will find helpful information about STEM, STEAM, and STREAM in this collection. In addition, we have curated web resources for all grade levels to help as you plan your activities (lesson plans, interactives, and more).

This resource, Teaching Central America, shares various lessons and guides to support educators in teaching about Central America. Topics include lessons based on Hispanic-themed fiction and non-fiction picture books, an interactive map, and short biographies of Central American leaders. Use the link below each description to access the included materials; most links lead to a PDF document; however, a couple of lessons require free registration by providing your email to access the materials.

In the Classroom
Bookmark and save Teaching Central America as a resource for finding multicultural books and lessons to include in your classroom for Hispanic Heritage Month and throughout the year. Organize your saved bookmarks using Padlet, reviewed here. For example, create a column that includes your saved ideas for teaching about Central America, another for the Caribbean, and one for South America. Use Google My Maps, reviewed here, either as a class or with groups of students, to create interactive maps of places students learn about in Central America. Add links to your website or a column to the Padlet for class-created activities, informational articles, and videos that extend learning beyond the resources shared on this site. Some of the teaching materials include correlation to standards.

Play a virtual trombone, try playing a song with Rhythm Race, or test your knowledge with Song Trivia. Select any game from the thumbnail offerings to begin. Some games include tutorial activities and options for multiplayer games. Some games direct players toward other sites; check before sharing with students.

In the Classroom
Before sharing these games with students or including them on classroom computers, demonstrate how to identify and avoid ads in some games. Then, use the games to engage students in learning about different musical instruments, understanding rhythm and beat, or supplementing current music class instruction. Make it easy for students to find shared games using Symbaloo, reviewed here. Create a Symbaloo mix that links to shared games and add it as a resource on classroom computers. In the Classroom
Before assigning games with students, use your whiteboard or a screen recording to demonstrate how to avoid ads found on the site. It is also helpful to add a short tutorial for some games to get students started, as most games do not include instructions. Select games on this site, and others, as part of an arts center that features music, art, and drama games and activities. Curate your resources into one place to make it easier for students to find and access them using Wakelet, reviewed here, or another curation tool.
