Timelines are powerful visual tools that can transform how students understand chronology, cause and effect, and the evolution of ideas in any subject area. In this hands-on workshop, we'll explore three versatile, free timeline creation tools you can implement at any grade level. You'll learn how to use timelines not just as presentation tools, but as dynamic frameworks for student inquiry, collaboration, and assessment. Discover strategies for scaffolding student comprehension from introduction to assessment while empowering learners to make connections between events, identify patterns, and visualize change over time. Whether you're teaching history, science, literature, or another subject, you'll leave with practical approaches to integrating interactive timelines that engage students and provide valuable insights into their understanding. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Design learning experiences that use timelines to scaffold student comprehension in any subject area. 2. GLOW With Your Hands is a regional career-exploration program that helps students discover high-demand careers in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming (GLOW) counties in New York. Through hands-on annual events and a virtual platform, students can learn about local opportunities in Manufacturing, Agriculture, Skilled Trades, and Healthcare. The site connects schools with employers, exhibitors, volunteers, and community partners while highlighting career pathways that can lead to meaningful local employment. Educators can use this resource to support career awareness, introduce students to workforce skills, and help them see how classroom learning connects to real-world jobs and future possibilities. The organization has connected more than 6,000 students with local career opportunities since 2019.

Set up four stations, each representing one of the industries featured on the website (Agriculture, Food Production, Advanced Manufacturing, and Skilled Trades). Provide job descriptions, salary ranges, and educational requirements from the website and have students rotate through stations, take notes, and discuss which careers interest them the most. Students can choose a career and create an infographic that outlines the education, skills, training, and potential salary for that job. They can use digital tools like Canva reviewed here or poster boards to design their infographics. Pair students and assign one as an "interviewer" and the other as a "job applicant" for a career listed on the website. Provide sample interview questions related to the chosen career. Afterward, switch roles and reflect on what they learned about workplace expectations and communication skills.

Challenge your students to research a high-demand career from the collection and prepare a one-minute pitch about their chosen career, including job duties, required skills, and salary information. In a "speed networking" format, students can rotate and share their career pitches with classmates. Students can also choose an in-demand career and create a roadmap showing the steps to enter the field, including education, internships, or certifications. The "roadmap" can be created using an online resource such as MindMup reviewed here. In groups, have students select an in-demand industry, such as healthcare, technology, or skilled trades, and brainstorm ways to improve efficiency or solve a challenge in that field. They can present their ideas as a mini Shark Tank pitch to the class.

Students can also analyze a real-world logistics challenge (ex., shipping delays, warehouse shortages, fuel costs) and, in groups, brainstorm and present creative solutions to improve efficiency.
