Take a digital journey exploring Latin America and the Middle East's cultures and history through this collaboration between the University of Arizona's Centers of Latin American Studies and Middle Eastern Studies. Begin your journey as a student or view the teacher's guide, including tips, exploration activities, and lesson extensions. As students complete each of the trips, they receive certificates of completion. All activities are provided through Google Word documents, maps, and forms. Some activities lead to videos hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

As the title states, this site converts PDF documents to Excel documents. Upload a file of any size from your computer, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive without having to create an account. Files remain on the site's server for six hours before being automatically deleted. Once converted, all information imports into an Excel file, and any tables in the original document become fully editable and formatted. The conversion speed depends on the file's size and server speed; our practice document was ready to use within a minute.

Keep this site handy to use in a variety of situations. For example, many student worksheets available with textbooks are in PDF format. PDF files are the most common type of document available, take advantage of this conversion site to extract information and explore different scenarios using the original formulas. Science teachers can take lab activities and refine questions or add instructions as needed for their classroom. Save student grades in a PDF document and then convert to Excel to understand individual assignments' impact on the overall grade.

Extend learning further by asking students to become the problem solvers and share their suggestions for solving the problem both long term and short term. Bookmark and save this site to use in a variety of ways. Share maps with students that show information for different periods of time during the 19th Century. Because this site includes various types of maps, use these resources to provide a wider context of the time period. For example, choose the time from 1860-1870 to take a look at the Civil War era. Have students use the information found in the maps to research and understand population patterns in the United States, explore the slave population's distribution, and understand the geographic locations of the south's cotton regions. Parlay is a virtual round table student-driven discussion tool. Browse the discussion prompts on the site or create your own. Each round table starts with a statement of the learning goals for the activity. Students then view added content and multimedia, including videos, articles, and other information to support the discussion. After reviewing the content, students participate by responding to discussion questions followed by peer feedback. After creating a round table, invite students to participate using the join code or link to your activity. Another option available on the site is Parlay Genie, an artificial intelligence-based tool that creates discussion prompts based on your topic, grade range of students, and additional information such as weblinks and the number of students. In addition, Parlay connects to Google Classroom, Schoology, Canvas, and other school platforms, allowing educators to assign to students automatically. The free option offers up to twelve round tables and one custom content request.

Use the messaging feature to gather and display messages from participants. Wooclap also features options for add-ins to include PowerPoint Slides, Google Slides, PDF's, and more. Free Wooclap accounts allow users two questions for up to 1,000 students; however, it is free for educators in K12 by following the directions found here. Create an account to begin, then add an event. Choose the type of activity from the provided options such as a poll, open-ended question, word cloud, and more. Share your activity using the event code or link created for it.

After downloading Zight, follow the directions to install and use it on your device. Use the included tools to trim and cut videos or create GIFs. When finished, save and generate a link to your clipboard. Other features include the ability to do real-time annotations while you are recording your screen and editing tools to trim and cut recordings. Zight integrates with Slack, Microsoft Teams, and others. Free accounts offer one user up to twenty-five items with ninety-second recording times.

After creating an account, upload your photo, and Trace removes the background and leaves the image's main focus. Download the edited image as a PNG file or continue through the additional options to add a new color background, upload a new image for the background, use one of Trace's background images, or edit using the crop tool. When finished, download your image to your device.

As educators, it's our duty to teach our students to respect people of all races, genders, orientations, and cultures, both in our classroom and in the outside world. Racism, sexism, and orientation discrimination can be difficult topics to broach in the classroom but are essential to discuss as students find their voices and form their understanding of the world. In this collection, we share resources about combatting racism, lesson plans about the human cost of discrimination, and additional activities to spark meaningful discussion and encourage students at all grade levels to treat all people with respect.

Travel the world from home by looking through windows shared in random locations. The prerecorded videos typically last 10 minutes or use the link to move to new videos at any time. Some sites share beautiful landscapes; others look out onto a garden or street. You never know what you will see! WindowSwap opens in a new window in your browser; at the time of review it doesn't work on iPads or iPhones.

In the Classroom
Share WindowSwap on your interactive whiteboard to engage students in learning about different countries and states through real-life backyards and windows. Ask students to compare and contrast the geographical features seen during your browsing. Be sure to locate other locations on a map to help students understand where each country is found. Have students browse the site on their own to find a place of interest to choose as a research topic. Become part of WindowSwap by sharing the view outside your classroom window following the directions on the site. As students explore and learn more about windows around the world, use Google My Maps, reviewed here, to create and share a virtual field trip to each of the locations. Expand civic literacy with weekly updates and resources from the Florida Joint Center for Citizenship. Each week the center adds civics concepts related to the current news. View topics by date and title, then click to download. The downloads are one page PDF documents containing a short overview of the relevant topic along with a "To Think and To Do" activity.

In the Classroom
Because this site offers weekly downloads, it is a great addition to use in any social studies classroom for civics lessons or providing ongoing civics discussions throughout the school year. Engage students by creating groups to explore concepts even further throughout the year. For example, divide your class into four or five groups, then have each group rotate throughout the month to take the information from a weekly update and conduct further research. Use Padlet, reviewed here, to curate and share each of the activities for students to revisit and review the content. Take advantage of tools such as Google Slides, reviewed here, to focus student groups on learning activities. Create a slide template that includes students' areas to answer questions, reflect upon finding, and share resources used. Extend learning using podcasts as a final project for students to discuss and share their researched topic. Buzzsprout, reviewed here, is an excellent option for podcasting in the classroom because of the free features that include adding links and lists to podcasts and the ability to schedule podcasts release for your chosen date and time.

Save this site to encourage students to test their skills on higher-level puzzles, using only as a last resort to find answers. Use the recent clues list for you or your students to create puzzles using the crossword generator from Class Tools, reviewed here. Have students develop puzzles to review vocabulary terms, important information from novels, or test their knowledge of historical figures.
